1998 e-start lag time

When I hit the button, on my new to me parts bike or possible project bike, there is some lag time between when the button is depressd and when the starter begins to spin. Could it be:

The starter button is worn out.

The starter relay is going out.

The starter is bad.

Corroded connections.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I think you hit them all buddy. I would start backwards with a set of jumper wires. First straight to the starter, then the relay etc.. untill I found the lag.

Sounds like the battery could be a bit crook too and doesn't supply start current too well.
