1998 600 fes Part interchange

Hey guys,

I just broke my shifting shaft off that connects the shift lever. I found one on Ebay for a 1996 600 fe will that interchange with my 1998 fes. I think it will work but want to make sure.
 
don't see why not. cases and frames in that area basically the same. the kickstarters are the same for all models up to 06.
how did u break a shift shaft?
 
I got hung up on a rock and it twisted off so i'm going to replace and hope nothing else is broke
