Hello I'm a new berg owner but not new to dirt bikes but this is my first 4 stroke an I love it but I bought it a month ago an the bike is like brand new it was not a street legal bike so I made it one an ride 40 miles a day for work an have noticed it uses oil it's runs like a striped assed ape starts first kick but was wondering if this is normal thank you for any help.

Hi

This is not a street bike and I don't know how do you run those 40 miles, but it shouldn't drink oil at least not much.

Ya I ride on street an dirt to work it's geared with a 15/44 so it's easy on the motor rungs great but every couple days I have to just top it off with maybe a ounce of oil it does not smoke nor is there any oil leaks or suit on the bike an the plug looks brand new stiill just uses a little oil so don't know the bike is assume though thanks for the in put

you are probably loosing oil through your breather vent. The tube goes from the vavle cover into the frame and then into the carburator. I would'nt worry about it. 15/44 is in my eyes pretty tal gearing for the street. on my FS650e I run 15/38

Ok thanks want to make sure it runs good about half throttle an it's running 75 mph with plenty to go but now u say a 38 how is it out of the hole? Is it sluggish or still takes off good I don't want a turd until I hit 75 lol thanks again for ur input

Stock gearing for a 2005 FS650e is 16/38. with 15/38 it pulls hard low down( power wheelies in third ) and I cruise at 120-125km perhr at 5200rpms. since your bike is smaller it might affect your power a bit more. as for the oil cunsumption you can remove your air filter and look in the frame you will probably see some traces of oil in there. it will settle your mind if you know where the oil is coming from and where it's going.

I have also rerouted my breather tube just to the atmosphere without a check valve, under similar driving conditions i also needed to top my oil every day or too untill i vented it out of the airbox, in dirty, dusty, wet conditions it would probably not be a good idea to vent it without a high speed one way check valve. change your oil very frequently, like every 300-400 miles or evey few hours, i also keep the oil level up to the top of the oil fill hole and never lose any at all, i think a little more is better for extended higher rpm use......at least it wont hurt anything i am sure, did i meantion to change your oil all the time too? i know i did but its worth mentioning again.....

Wow thanks a bunch that was really helpful ya I just changed it today an prob will every two wks I don't see the harm in it an I think I will vent it like that for the street an that is a good idea to run it at the top with oil thanks alot much appreciated .

If the engine IS in good nick it will be drinking oil because it is revving hard.

TALL gearing (as in for higher speeds) is only good when it is right. too tall a gearing makes you rev the tits off it through the gearbox.

top speed should be achieved in 5th gear and then slip into 6th to save the engine.

Taffy

Yea, like everyone else said you should change you gearing up a little too.... no i dont run any vent or filter, i had the chrysler high speed check valve like others have posted about but didnt like it at all, it didnt seem fast enough and not right, i forget who makes them but there is a company who makes a valve specifically for big bore thumpers that i would like to try but its like 80$ or a duck bill valve from a royal enfield but i dont have anything currently and have had no problems, i do have a couple layers of screen at the top over the outlet pipe with the hose and clamp sandwiching that in there but thats it. oil rarely comes out reguardless of engine rpm or being on its side or even upside down for short periods..... :D

Lmao that's funny ok sounds good thank you again ya I'm going to try a 42 or even a 38 an see what happens an I know k&n makes a nice small filter that I think I will try on it

It is totally normal for that generation of motor to use oil........

My 94 501 would use about 20-30cc during a typical desert race of 80 miles.

IMHO the only reason to re route the engine breather hose is if you are using it off road and tip it over a lot and get oil in the air box.

I had mine routed to the back of the bike with a K&N tyype filter on it because I fall down and would get oil in the air box. I used some thin walled 3/8" hose so it would pass between the frame spar and the carb air boot more easily.

Just keep an eye on the oil level and have a good time, those bikes rip!

Thank you ya I have been keeping it full an switched to a 40 Th rear an going to set it up sm style but also keep it ready for dirt sense that's what I grew up doing an racing an ya this bike halls the mail big time it's crazy an that is a great idea for the kn to run it to the back that's my plan thanks again everybody an I am a berg owner now for life
