Hi I have a 1997 fe 501 starts perfect half a kick no choke, but in higher gears it 3/4 to full throttle it start bucking and missing. It is using a lot of fuel and seems rich at idle plug is black. I am thinking about lowering the needle. I also have a 38mm Keihin carb off a yzf250 laying around should I put it on the berg.

you need to refresh the insides of your carb. atomiser, needle,, Pj as well as looking for the CD1 jet under the pilot jet. you need to see if you've got one. go look in the doc under carburation for details.
that said, with the 37/39 keihin fitted we could pretty much dial you straight in.

will the 37/39 yamaha carb bolt right up, what would the jettng be for 1700ft for the 37mm fcr carb. I am getting rid of the stock one.

I raised the needle and moved the mixture screw 1 7/8 out runs well now . Starts well hot and cold good over rev. seems like is uses alot of fuel It sounds like that is normal?. Has anybody tried to put megasquirt fuel injection on one of these bikes.
