you need to get your black plastic ignition cover off on the right hand end of the crank. there, you'll see a flywheel covering the stator. if you follow the wires out throught the front and up under the tank you'll see a red, green and black wire connected to the same colours on the red ignition coil.
they get damp or just simply don't like hot and cold over 15,000 days and nights and fracture the laquer coat off the naked copper wire and short-out. pull the three wires apart.
get a multimeter set on ohms and check the green off the stator to the black wire also off it. you should get 23 ohms.
the bad one is going to be red to black which should read 1,750 ohms and will likely read '0'.
then you need a new stator and will need to make sure it is sealed off OK. now if you have 6 wires (two yellows and a blue) from it you've been converted to an FE stator for recharging. you'll need a flywheel puller to pull the flywheel off but if the reading is '0' then it doesn't matter that you can't 'see it' it is phuqed.
this is a new FE stator.
