Hi all! I am new here (obviously......) and I am looking to see if anyone can help me with some information about a possible buy that I am looking at. I have been riding japanese bikes for about the last twenty years and I am looking for something that will stand out compared to the sea of hondas/kawasakis/yamahas/suzukis. I have stumbled across a 1997 FC501 (from what the owner tells me...says that it also has a six speed gearbox, too?) Anything to look out for with this specific model? The owner wants a two stroke, and to be frank......I would like a thumper! I attempted to use the search function, but nothing really specific came up and I just sat at my computer for about 2-3 hours just looking through post after post after post after post (I think you get the point), but the keihin carb mod sounds interesting....already picking info up! Well, that is enough of my babbling and if anyone can help me out, feel free to give a shout! Thanks again guys! (and girls!)

Why not!

Hello.
It`s an old bike with a powerful engine and the first one with oilpump.

I would open the engine and take a look at the valves and the camchain and perhaps change the main bearings/sealings, just in case.

If you change the oil every 5-10 h and of course the airfilters and don`t rev it to high then you will have a good friend in the tracks.

Forgot to mention the crappy SEM stator, it can give up anytime, but Sparks repairs them to better than new.

But don`t compare it to modern Jap thumpers, the Husaberg is an old construction engine and wants to be taken care of now and then more now than then ;-)

Mine -99 501 is up in 210 h since the total rebuild and still going strong but i can feel some oilsmoke in the air when i start it.

Conclusion.
Yes, if you wants a bike with a lot of charm and feeling and like to be in the garage now and then.

No if you just wants a bike to ride on and don`t like the garage.

Regards
Jampe
