1995 WP 4057 Fork Shims

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible that WP forks were built (mine are 1995 WP 4057 model) with Rebound or Commpression shims in one leg but not replicated in the other?

The reason why I ask is, I have pulled my forks down to clean, inspect, replace seals and oil etc. and depite the fact they do not appear to have been previously dissassembled, one leg has all shims present and correct, while the other does not.

In talking to a knowlegable gentleman, he informed me (rightly or wrongly) that sometimes forks were built this way to provide certain compression/rebound characteristics.

Sounds a bit wierd to me, as this would put some odd stresses in the forks and on the axle but am happy to seek confirmation from the wiser heads out there.

Thank you.

apparently the wheelbearings don't last long

hydraulically though, the seperate rebound/compression legs solve a lot of issues.

if you want to read up on the concept, search for "IDF forks" on thumpertalk and reference user "daveJ"

KTM 65 sx and the 50 minis still use this idea.
