1994 FC501 Fuel Tank Hookup

After taking my fuel tank off to clean it out and replace the lines, I have realized that hooking it up is more complicated than I thought. The tank had been disconnected before I bought it. I think I have an idea of how it should be hooked up, but without any prior experience working on bikes, I want to make sure I do it right. Does the diagram I have draw for the fuel flow look correct to you guys? It seems like an interesting flow. The vacuum fuel pump pushes gas up to the top section and from there, gravity feeds the gas through the petcock and into the carburetor. Let me know what you think. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Brandon

Try to push the fuel line into that recess on the right side of the tank. You can see where it has been taped into place before. Loop it across the very bottom of the air filter and connect it to the left side. You may need a little more fuel line. Everything else is correct.

Okay thank you I will make sure to do that. One more stupid question :) On the carb, there are three small hose attachments. I think the two are connected as shown in the picture. However, I don't see anywhere to attach the one coming out of the float bowl. To my understanding, the purpose of this line is to ensure that the fuel is under atmospheric pressure which will cause the fuel to flow to lower pressure during intake. Can anyone clear up the purpose of these lines and let me know where the line from the float bowl should connect to?

Thanks,
Brandon

Do not connect them. All are vent and overflow passages. Instead of connecting the hose to the other side continue running the hose down between the swing arm and frame.

Some will cram a small piece of foam into the vent hose so that crud will not work its way up to and into the carb. At any rate the vent hose must be unobstructed or else the carb float bowl will not fill properly and fuel starvation will result.

For a more elaborate system try the PC Racing Carburetor Vent System.

Fuel line routing

I have a 98 FX600 that I just picked up. I took the gas tank off to change oil filter and oil. The fuel lines running from the pump to the tank also needed replacing. The long line running to the left rear connection was routed under the front of the carb. After reading this post, it was routed wrong. So from what you're saying, the "long" line should be routed up the groove in the tank then crossed over behind the carb but below the frame under the rear air filter??Any pictures showing the correct routing would be great. I hope this helps the fuel feed. When I first started the bike after the oil change, it only ran for about 30 seconds. It acted like it ran out.

I have it like this

It should not make any difference for fuel delivery

The only advantage of having it go over the frame is that you can remove the tank with out getting fuel all over the place

Thanks. Between routing the fuel line correctly and unplugging the float bowl vent (someone put a bolt in the vent tube) now it flows gas and the bike starts right up.
Just got the bike last week and still have a lot of sorting to do. Thanks again.
