I have my buddies 94 600 Fe? i think, and it needs an oil change, what oil wieght is best? does it use the same oil for the tranny? If not what oil is good for the trannsmission? Where is the drain plug? And also where is the drain plug for the radiator fluid? Thanks

The motor and transmission run in the same oil. The owner's manual for those years says to use 5W/50 full synthetic and I used Castrol Syntec 5W/50 in my '96 FE501 as did a friend of mine with a '92 FE350 and neither of us had any clutch issues using the automotive motor oil. The drain plug is on the right side of the cases (if I remember right) and screws in horizontally and there is a filter screen you need to clean but no oil filter. It takes just under a liter of oil and if you over-fill it the bike may smoke a bit. I tried using 20W/50 oil in mine but it became hard to start when cold.

You drain the coolant by loosening one of the radiator hoses and holding a bucket under it - there is no drain plug.

It will work but I personally had trouble starting my '96 with anything heavier than 5W-50 - but that may have been in cold weather since I bought the bike in November and it was brand new. It also seems like my '02 FE650 was harder to start when cold with the heavier oil. Right now I'm using Shell Rotella T 15W-40 in my '05 550 and have no cold starting problems.

I got to thinking and remembered that there is a link on the Husaberg web site to owner's manual downloads including one for the '89-'96 models. This the link:

http://www.husaberg.com/Downloads.33.0.html

It will show you everything you need for routine maintenance including the location of the drain plug and filter screen - all in several languages!
