16/40?

Has anyone got a recent fe-650 with 16/40 gearing? My 06 has 15/45 and I am thinking of going to a 42 in the back. My 01 650 had 15/42 and I loved how it stretched out the gears and gave a serious top end rush with all that power. I am curious about what others are running. good day.

16-40 is too tall for a fe 650 imo

i run 14-46 , which is a decent combination . FE 650

standard gearing for the FS 650 is 15-40

I experimented with 16/45 for a while-but with the wide ratio 6th of the FE the bike struggles to pull it.

You really want the CR FC 6th gear so the bike does not fall flat on its face on the final upshift if you plan on tall sprocket ratios..

Yes, the taller gearing does spread the bottom gears out a lot more, but after watching some helmet cam footage of some wide open stuff I realised just how over geared an FE is at 16/45, and the amount of time you spend just trying to gain that last couple of hundred RPM so it handles upshifts better in the last 2 gears.

I ended up at 14/45, still runs virtually the same top speed as the 16/45 due to the fact the bike wont pull 16/45 easily, and 14/45 makes it so much nicer everywhere else.

I consider 16/40 way overgeared, unless you have a big downhill with a tailwind, going in the same direction of the earths rotation :D .
With a pack of orange bikes snapping at your heels

I ran 16-40 last weekend and it was too short. 16-38 was too tall when it was hot, but when we had some cool air blow through it was just right. Oh yeah, that was at Homestead Miami Speedway, so I guess it's different terrain than you would be riding on an FE... :D

The jump from 5 to 6 is HUGE. Is there anything I can do about that?

I also am using a 16/45 with no problem's pulling it!!
fc muffler shouldn't have that big of difference should it?
4000 ft ele.

I don't know what year your Berg is, but from 94 up through 03, you got 6th 25:21 gearing for the FC and FSc.

The FE, and FSe had 27:20, which is much higher and causes that big gap between 5th and 6th.

You could interchange the 27:20 with 25:21.

But, in 04, Husaberg only put 6th 27:20 gearing in the bikes.

I don't know if the 25:21 gear wheels are interchangeable on the 04 and later Berg transmission shafts. but if they are then you have a fix!

Regards,

Joe

My bike is a 2006 FS650c...

Then you have the 27:20 6th gear. The Parts manuals state that only 27:20 was supplied in the Bergs starting in 04. Maybe they will change this in 07?

Sorry,

Joe

I use 15/40 and think that it's perfect for my fs650. Easey to do wheelie's and i still have a nice cruise speed. But it's probably a bit much for a FE if u use it for offroad
