150 or 160 rear?

G'day
Just bought my FS650 and it has a 160 rear at the moment that needs replacing due to the previous owner using it as a commuter. The 160 only just clears the chain and swingarm. Do they come with a 160 or 150 from the factory? Preferably I'd like to replace it with another 160 but am concerned of any possible problems. What are you guys running? Also, I'm tossing up between replacing it with a Michelin pilot power or 2ct if they make it in a 160, or a Bridgestone Bt021.

As I can see, you have `05 bike, which means 5 inch rear rim (my previous bike was FS450 `05), which also means 160 rear tyre from the factory. I`ve had zero problems.
Michelin Pilot Power is perfect.
Do _NOT_ buy 2ct. 2ct will not warn you when you go "too far".

I was always under the impression you put a 150 on the 4.25 rim and 160 on the 5.00 rim

A 4.25x17 rim normally uses a 150/60/17 tire.

A 5.00x17 rim normally uses a 160/60/17 tire.

The 160 tire is a tight fit but as long as it doesn't rub it's ok.

Do you agree that a 160 on the 4.25 rim produces an undesireable tire profile?

I went with the 160 pilot power in the end. Did choose a bridgestone 090 160 initially but for some reason it wouldn't fit. It was rubbing on both sides. Strange!

I do not have first hand knowledge, but have heard the Dunlops run really wide and there are others. There was a nice thread (KTMTalk I think but might have been lifted from MonoManiacs) where a bunch of folks assembled fitment widths of a range of tires - the range of widths of 160 tires varied a great deal and it was clear then that some tires were simply too big.

A lot of people, including me, are running Michelin Pilot Powers and they are tight but they fit.

I am running a 5.00 rim with the 160/60 on it.
