Hi,

My restoration continues, and will soon need to get the drive bits sorted. Obviously, sprockets are worn / toast, so am replacing the whole trifecta.

I'd like to replicate what the previous owner had - 14T (OEM?) front, a really nice Supersprox 50T rear, and a high quality gold chain (not sure of the brand, DID, I suspect).

I'd like to avoid buying stuff piecemeal - looking for a good combo that gets me as close to the above spec as possible. This seems to be the one to beat -

any other ideas for achieving this or a similar spec combo?

Non negotiables = 14/50
Highly prefer = blue colour, and high-longevity rear sprocket, high quality chain.

thanks,

c

Last time i bought chain and sprockets, I went with a DID 520VX2 chain and an Ironman front/rear set, both off Amazon. My goals were the same as yours there. Tried to do my research. Happy with what I bought.

Thanks Tourist.

I'm seeing all 14/50 Ironman + chain kits out of stock.

Any other sources/ideas?

thanks,

hmm! I’d consider nearby f/r tooth counts that have less numeric factors in common - in other words, 14 and 50 are both divisible by 2, so the chain hits the same teeth more often. 14/49 or 14/51 have no common factors, which is supposedly a slight advantage for chain life. The 550 being a ridiculously powerful bike, I’d go for 14/49; No discernible difference to rider but 2% less revving :)

If you buy the kit directly from Supersprox, you get a lifetime warranty (and a free t-shirt).

Micks 2007 650 FE had the original new sprockets stock gearing and busted off all teeth on the front sprocket bar for 3 when I picked up on it for him, so I gave him a spare that I got with mine from new, so we could go riding that day, when he bought new sprockets he went to Supersprox with keeping the std gearing again as he was happy with that combo.
And I said were is my sprocket and he just tossed it in the bin because he said it was just **** ? well it was mine ! that I let to him for the week end ?

But what I was going to propose is that he use a front sprocket with more teeth and go more on the rear as you can still work out the same gearing or near to such and that way you have less chance of busting off the teeth of the front sprocket.

Just one more tooth on the front must work out to be what ever % stronger.

But then I seen Bushmechanic has a Ironman sprocket and has held out that well. I wonder how many teeth that front one has.
