Hey all! Are you up for the challenge? I just came across Steve member here that has passed 800 engine hours without needing major rebuild. He has original bottom end and even chlutch!!!! He uses Dello 400 with some Lucas oil stabilizer. I am going to have 650 rebuilt and I will set it up and go for this challenge. Are you, anybody else interested? This is a call to a lofty goal for shure. I am challenging all, lets do this!!!

There is one guy in Poland, who I believe already crossed 1000mth. He rides FS650. I don't know if he made any rebuild before, probably yes.

I guess you could actually hope to reach that goal by riding the bike 5 hours a week for 4 years as an example.
That, and also changing the oil about 200 times.

Let us know how it goes.

LOL but we also need to run the same machine with a OEM oil and then tear them down and check for wear. This sounds like the 1957 Mercury Boat motor run who is up to this on their bike lol.

Yes I know... It will take me forever to get there, getting there will be so much fun! I would like at least a few more people attempting this too. I think its tottally doable. I am thinking stock compression, wet ignition, spherical roller bearings, remote spin on oil filter total oil capacity around 3 liters. Will have to find better air filter. Synthetic Dello or Rotella T6. Possibly cusom crank or ktm 690 supermoto for reduced vibration. Bumped up oil pump and pressure.

Very cool thread! I'll be reading and contributing as I possibly can.

One thought: Something to investigate is if there is such a thing as *too much* oil capacity. IIRC there was a classic model of Fiat or Alfa Romeo - can't find the source atm :( - that was considered to have too much oil capacity because it took quite long for the oil to reach operating temperature and the engine had to be babied a bit until that happened :)

This is very vague and anecdotal and only intended to further discussion. I make no statement that 3 liters is too much.

Have no idea about the fiat/Alfa thing, but many vehicles that have things like external oil tanks, filters, and especially oil coolers have oil thermostats to help get the oil to operating temperature, and creating a by-pass loop until the thermostat opens up.

In another note, I was wondering about the wet ignition. One hole into the transmission cavity? What circulates the oil out of the flywheel compartment and into the trans? Would the oil possibly sit fairly stagnant not helping lubricate? Creating a current/convection would usually require 2 holes and carefully placed. The flywheel in the oil would create current, but only with an in/out passage. Something to think about[emoji848]
