hello all i am new to this forum,
i have a 2000 fc501 which i absolutely love, some friends of mine have invited me to drag racing next month and this got me wondering how fast the old **** would go down the drag strip, so has anyone else drag raced their berg and what times have you done? i know this is not the bergs intended purpose but still could be fun,
look forward to your response ,

can't help you and can help you .

i notice in your photo that you run the fuel tank/cap vent hose into the steering head area .
if any fuel/vapours exit the line it can contact the steering head bearings .

a'int that right taff, me old cobbler .

Oh dear!

that's what i do as well! :eep: :eep:

used to roadrace for 14 years but draggin is a kissin cousin!

gearing, if you do nothing else - get the gearing right with somepractice runs! what's the best she'll pull without revving and going nowhere or bogging coz it's too higher geared!

get that and you'll save more time than all your other changes!

regards

Taffy

Ok what's wrong with the cap vent hose into the steering head? That's how it's done on most bikes unless you have one of those expensive bling bling thingy with the skull or silver die at the end... (yes, I used the B word).

A mess, but if you tie the vent with a zip tie it will drip into the steering column. The small vent caps can break off and then what does fuel to a hot header?

Hello and welcome to the site samberg.

You aren't the only one whose decided to give the dragstrip a try on his 501. Check out this awesome thread from a few months ago. We'll be expecting a similar write-up after you smoke the competition! :D

i thought that the stem was hollow all the way through to the bottom and out?

even if it has a hole for the steering lock, by the time the fuel gets there it's vapourised aand so little will get through as not to be worth considering. even if i do fall petol doesn't gush out and finally AND THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME SAYING IT COZ NOBODY SEEMS TO GET IT: IF YOU DO ONE LOOP AROUND THE BARS IT STOPS ALL THIS HAPPENING!

i've never had a problem.

Why is he wrong? He said he never had a problem with gas running off and into the stem.

If anybody knows anybody including himself who had a dramatic runoff through the vent hose to the point that it wrecked his ride, please send him over.

cool thanks for all the input guys, the drag race thing is only for a fun thing i was not going to get mega serious about it (just change tyres and gearing ) however i am deeply concerned about all the contraversy over my fuel vent hose, i felt so guilty that i went to the shed and rerouted it immeditly now it goes straight from the tank to my helmet that way the fumes make me dizzy and i no longer worry about those steering head bearings,
happy trails *****.
