Has anyone seen or heard of the oil drain plug magnet breaking in half or being grinded in half by something in gear box? First time changing oil on my new to me 2009 fe570 @ 34hrs found the oil drain plug magnet sheared by as much as 7mm off!! Not much metal shavings stuck to it. Some shavings stuck to oil screen plug and no shavings on Banjo bolt screen. Very concerning!! Where did it go? I looked in oil drain plug hole with flashlight and could see nothing that could of sheared it off. Any help would be appreciated. Original owner said he changed oil often and last time was at 32 hrs

Well after inspecting oil looks like lots of tiny particles of metal and a few bigger!! Going for a ride tonight and then changing oil again. No one has any ideas? Bike seems to run strong. Could it be anything to do with the rekluse exp 2.0 I installed? New to this game so anything would be appreciated.

I saw this earlier and thought someone had responded so clicked it.

I wonder if the previous owner dropped the drain plug and it broke off when it hit the deck?

That's the only way it could break I'm thinking. No way it could break while plugging the hole. Definitely get a new one. I'd ask the previous owner about it. Maybe he'll come clean on it? Sucks not knowing if it's stuck to something in there.

On the metal you found on the plug, it's pretty normal for a new bike. Do you have a rear handbrake, or did you keep the clutch lever? If handbrake, it most certainly is transmission whiskers you found.

Was it thin 6~8mm slivers? I've found them on my 650 before as well as a bit of fine iron? (it's black)

Try pre loading the shifter and then let off the throttle for a split second to get it to slip into the next gear. Opposite on downshifts, preload the shifter, then blip it a little bit. Try to shift smoothly until you drop the oil again to see if the plug is cleaner.

Good luck

Or use the clutch lever if you've got it still.

I kept the clutch. Kind of thinking it had been dropped and broken as well. Previous owner is going to pick one up for me so that's good. Changing the oil tonight when I get home from work. See what it looks like. Is it normal to see oil on top of crank case if I have dropped the bike on its side?
