Howdy,
I am a new guy here to this forum. I caught the Berg flu from Colby when he and my nephew came to ride in Southern NM. His 650 is awsome and boy howdy can he ride it. I had a new Montessa Cota 4RT trials bike but my back wouldn't take it so my journey to bike nirvana took me down the enduro road. I have a KLX300R for sale because I drink a bit too much beer for the kick start, bought an '02 KTM 250EXC RFS with the HT351 kit that runs great, I just have not been able to bond with it yet. I have read all the propaganda about the '09 FE450 being nimble and controllable, act like a 250 etc and I want fuel injection.
I would like to hear from somebody that owns one if it would be great for a 55 yr old guy with a weak back, worn out knees, desire of a 40 yr old, that likes to ride around but wants the better suspension and is easy/effortless to ride. I generally ride slow and like the technical trials stuff. I did consider the Scorpa T-Ride as an option. I live in the desert with sand, rocks, arroyos, trails in the mountains and all kinds of stuff just minutes away, 4000 ft in altitude to 9,000 so the street legal/DS is important as well.
Are they really that easy to handle?? I am 6'3" 240 lbs loaded.
Are they geared in first gear to putts around?? My KLX is a 3.0:1 and the KTM is a 2.71:1 first gear with a 13/50 sprocket set up. What is the FE450 first gear ratio?? The KLX will noticeably putts slower/easier than the KTM. I was told that the fuel injection and engine design is the ticket in for lugging and puttsing around. The 450 will have more low end torque as well.
How are they for overheating at slow speeds?? I guess a fan can be installed for a nominal charge
Your thoughts??
