My 09 FE450, with 400 hours and 8000 miles, has broken. Stone reliable to this point.
Engine runs fine. Transmission shifts fine. all gears, but no output. sounds like 2 gears running over each other without engagement. I can hear the teeth spinning across each other. Happened yesterday while I was riding a wash here in Moab.
I assume I'll need to split the cases. I've gone through the service manual.
What problems have those of you who have disassembled their engines run into that is not addressed in the service manual? What special tools does one have to have that can't be jury-rigged from standard tools?
Any help and thoughts would be great. I start taking the engine out of the bike today.
