nowhere near here
This bike has a repurposed Magura clutch master cylinder connected directly to it's rear Brembo caliper. Has worked fine for many years. As of today, lever goes to the handlebar with no effect. Can't push fluid up through the caliper to the Magura.

Can't figure out what's happening. Anyone know?

Also, if the Magura needs a rebuild, I have not been able to identify which clutch master it is. So don't know which kit I may need. Picts attached..

Thx,

The clutch uses mineral oil. The rear brake uses DOT 4. So depending on what you used will F up one or the other. Shouldn't be hard to rebuild kits for either end. Might be hard to find DOT 4 for lever end same for rear brake (mineral oil) maybe someone out there knows a fuild that would work?

you don't say Rainerio! No shi* Sherlock! :D:D

Introducing a synthetic brake fluid called 5.0 well that is what I recall through my inebriated and tortured two brain cells!

5.0 was synthetic and
5.1 was back to DOT.

he's basically got contamination years later, it could have happened on the first day, it could have happened in three years time but eventually the wrong oil got to the wrong seal. Don't forget; there's no travel in brake or clutch hydraulic fluid.

I do a brake fluid conversion kit (100137) and a brake fluid anti-slosh cup (101318). In theory, if everything was done from the start, when fresh and new, then you'd start with DOT5.1 and live happily ever after. but you are replacing mineral oil so it has to work with the old mineral oil; your not flushing it out exactly are you?

so using a synthetic brake fluid is all i could think of .... and it worked for me!

Thanks for the response. You're saying the Magura clutch uses mineral fluid, however, mine specifies DOT 3-4. See pict. Which is what I've been using for 10 years.

I assume I need to replace the Magura seals. But I can't find any info on the Magura site that fits this older model clutch. There are no markings on the clutch master itself, except that it is 9.5mm. Is the Magura repair kit 0720555 the right one?

KTM Husqvarna dealer should be able to help You. If in the US Rockymountan ATV , AOMC.MX or Munn Racing. Even Taffy if your in Europe , worldwide I think. He's the sweetest old Man next to Cod liver oil!

if the piston seal inside is green it is for mineral oil. if the seal is black it is for brake fluid.

cheers

Taffy

I've checked with Rockymountain, Munn, AOMC and the KTM websites (I'm in the US), and no one carries ( or has ever heard of) a Magura kit for DOT fluids ( no on the black o-rings).

Can I use the standard (green o-ring version) with DOT 5.0? I can't use mineral oil in a rear brake.

I see that Taffy lists the correct kit on his website. But being in the UK, with Christmas and Covid, it will probably take weeks to get to the western US.

What do you recommend?

Found out I can use mineral oil in a brake. However, that may be a problem for the Brembo caliper. Does anyone know for sure?

It appears that the piston was stuck in the Magura clutch master cylinder bore, which is why the lever was just flopping back/forth and why I could not push any fluid up from the caliper.

I've cleaned it out and reassembled it. Seems to be working for now. I'll see how long before it dies again. I should still replace the internals though.
