Hi All,
I'm really having difficulty standing while riding my new Berg. I have the Scotts submount, stock bars and foot pegs. I'm 6'1" and about 225 lbs (if that matters).
I have properly sprung the bike for my weight (not that it matters with this problem).

It seems to me the footpegs are really high. I could be riding it like a dork but I'm really uncomfortable and much slower (having to sit on the singletrack stuff is making me way too slow)!

I'm having fantasies about making lower footpeg mounts or cutting off the factory brackets and rewelding them on to get those pegs down much lower. Or getting a set of 2"-3" bar risers and new cables, hydralic hoses...

Any thoughts?

I am the same height and weight as you and I have a set of Renthal FatBars (not sure of the bend but higher than stock) and a GPR Ver 4 under the bar stabilizer mount on my 09 FE450 and I feel more comfortable standing on this bike than any other bike I have owned. I also put a Guts tall, medium firmness seat on and I am very happy with the set up.

I am in the process of changing springs. What did you settle on?

I would start with some 20-30mm risers and a tall seat.

Have you moved the handle bar mounts to the forward position? Silly question I know... But, I like to keep it simple
Good Luck!

You might consider installing Fastway foot pegs as they are set a little lower and further back which helps people with long legs and large boots. I have Fastway pegs on both of my bikes and really like them.

Hey Bruce

I am assuming that your submount already raises your bars. If not, the 20/30 mm bar risers may be helpful. The fastway pegs are popular, but they do make your feet more vulnerable to stumps and ruts etc... and the likelyhood of a smashed foot.

I'm close to 6 2 and do not mod the bike at all, std bar height and std pegs. I find that raising the bars moves my body to far rearward when climbing hills, reducing my control. I used to run all sorts of bar risers, as my lower back was always stressed in the standing position. Perhaps I've modified my stance, with more bend in the knees, but I've gone back to std bar height, and have no issues.

The tall seat certainly helps with teh transition to standing and moving the body forward in seated corners. I think your stance is more what you should modify, than openning your wallet. I know, it is not comfortable at first, but it works and ... its cheaper!!!!

hope this helps

A few clarifications, if I may...
The scotts undermount raises the bar about 1" (25mm)and forces the rider to use the forward bar positions only. I can use position 3 or 4 and I've got mine all the way up and away.
Taller seat isn't what I'm after. We have some pretty great climbs here and I like to be able to get a foot down if I get it wrong. I also like to be able to 'whellie turn' the bike while stopped. While seated the bars feel fine, footpegs seem to be too high. Standing (beacause of the high mounted footpegs) the bars feel much too low. The bike has such wonderful torque and pulls so hard even from idle... I'm struggling to hunch down while standing enough to resist the bike from pulling out from below me.

The only other mod I did was cut 3/4" (20mm) off each end of the stock bars. The bark busters add that back. We ride pretty tight single track here!

I'm enrolled in a skills school this weekend so we'll see if my technique is way off base. I'll report back what I learn

I am 6'6" tall, but much of that height seems to be in my torso since I have a 32"-33" inseam.

A while back I rode a 570 with pegs that were lowered about half an inch and handlebars on risers. Mostly I noticed the handlebars which did make it significantly easier to stand up on the bike, but I think the pegs helped too.

Overall though I don't find the bike too compact as some have claimed.

The taller seat may not be after, but, it may indeed be what the doctor ordered.

I'm roughly the same height as you, except that I am 3/4" of an inch taller. I also have the Scott's sub mount with my bars in position #4, and I have my bars rolled forward. I have found this set up let's me easily sit as far forward as I want.

I had the original tall seat on my bike for a really long time, hard as a board but if kept your legs more straightened out, but would beat the heck out of your prostate!!! I recently switched to a GUTS tall soft that I've had in a box for almost a year and am now a very happy camper, I don't feel like I have to go all the time!

The only other option is to go with the either the Husaberg hard parts adjustable pegs, or the fastway pegs. But like Fry said, that puts your feet closer to the ground. Give the tall seat a try see how that works out for you, you may find that it doesn't hamper your style as much as you might think, but, will still give you the leg relief you need.

Turns out that you guys were right! I was riding it like a dork and I should have a tall seat. I may add an inch to the bar height with different bars or riser but it looks like the pegs will stay where they are. I like my toes!

Thanx for all the input.

Fry, I suppose I'll meet you at the Corner Grass event.
