has anyone had trouble with this happening as it has just happened to my bike with 15 hrs on it,i believe there was a recall and it could be a warranty issue,if you have and 09 and not had the mod done take it to your dealer to get it sorted before it cracks on the top engine mount bolt.

How did you end up with an 09 with 15 hrs and not have had the TSB done to it?

May I suggest that your topic title read "09 fe 570 cracked head stay"

don't run the top engine mount on mine due to this, came from the dealer like that and he even pointed it out and advised me why it had been taken off.

What does this mean too?

I think he meant "dont" run this.

The fly cut on the intake manifold on the first bikes had a very square cut on it, there was a TSB or Technical Service Bulletin that came out to put a radius across this area. The TSB mentioned also that it was important to have the suspension set up correctly (imagine that) to help this head stay from cracking.

All bikes produced later had a radius cut in to alleviate this problem. Here are some pics after the TSB was performed. Where the radius is used to be a 90* angle.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for this info I had not heard about this little mod and from what I can see without pulling things of the bike mine hasn't been done (or not too well any way, it has about a 1.5mm radius) it will be time to check the valves again soon so I will look at this also.

Good incentive for me to set that suspension up like you already told me to do Dale :D
Wish Bushie didn’t live so far away, could pay him, looks like he loves click’n CC's and OC's and the smell of Fork Oil in the morning :D
Thanks for making this post clearer Dale.

i bought the bike second hand and did not know about this problem so when i was on a track dy it cracked through to the cylinder head,so i am now waiting to here if they will replace it for me.

so i take it if you got the the 09 model, then take it off & just leave if off that will be fine

Yes i think you can run without the mount, so if you do not have the mod take it off.

Why would you want to run the bike without the head stay? The head stay is there for a reason.

Get the HBG dealer who originally sold the bike to the first owner to replace the head/cylinder as it was their responsibility to contact the owners and do the retro fit.

FYI the TSB came out April 28th, 2009, and only affects bikes with certain VIN numbers. It is copy right protected so I cannot post it here.

It was done to mine (by the previous owner) after talking to a couple of the WEC guys and what they are running. Evidently they would run without it on the 09's. I haven't heard how they run the 10's.

It is hard to explain the difference of running with it vs. without....... Less stiff???? feels like there is a little more give in the frame.....

One area you can feel it is in grass track..... Much better "feel" in bumpy corners. Feels like it has better traction carving around the corners.

HI dale, my VIN ends in 187 is it in the TSB ? I have the head off now and I can see the knife edge left from the machining.

Have to check with your dealer mate! I don't have access to that kind of info.

Cheers mate thought I'd give it a go, will contact HBG Australia for the info, been getting frigged about by the dealer lately :cuss:

This happened to me. My dealer got me a new head for free but I had to do the work. I made some aluminum head stays to make sure this doesn't happen again.

any more news what would happen if the bracket is left off.
i spoke to a dealer & asked if he could send me the braket but he seaid i needed to bring it in but that means hireing a van & driving 1.5 hrs,so if i can avoid it & all is hunky dory i would rather take it off.

Ask the dealer to fax or email you a copy of the TSB. You can trim the bracket yourself until you get a chance to go to the dealer.
