Sorry, put this in the general forum but probably needs to be here...

I'm finally getting around to installing the electric fan kit on my FE450 and ran into a snag... I cannot find the plug for the harness under the tank. There was one that I used for the lights I installed last year but I cannot find any other plug. A little background... last year I installed both the front and rear wiring harness and headlight, turn signals, horn, brake switch and light. She's plated now but runs a little hot at high altitude... hence the fan. Great dual sport BTW. All the fan harness needs is switched + and - so I'm wondering if I need to tee into the headlight connector. I guess I could run it right off the battery but the fans could come on even when the bike is not running. Anyway, I guess the question is... Are there separate connectors for the headlight and fan?

The connector for the fan is right there up front. So if you used it for something else, you have two choices, either undo what you did, and plug the fan in where it supposed to go as it has it's own fused run. And then tap into another line or run a separate line for your light.

What kind of light did you put on?

According to the Wiring Diagram there is a 2 pin connector that plugs into the Fan wires. It has a Brown Wire (Earth) and a Black/Blue Wire (from a diode). The Diode then has a Blue/Yellow wire that runs back to fuse 4. Fuse 4 is labelled:
Speedometer
Horn
Brake Light
Turn Signal
Radiator Fan

Thanks for the replies guys.

Dale, I'm using the X2 HID headlight. Super bright and low draw.

Dave, Thanks for identifying the wires. You're right, the brown and black/blue is powering the turn signal circuit. I'll just tap into that. There are a couple of other open connectors under the battery that I'm curious about though... one connector has a brown and a white wire, the other has brown and yellow/blue wire. Can you tell me what those are for? Sorry for the bother. Can you tell me where I can get a copy of the wiring diagram? That would be great if possible. Thanks again, Ron

Davo,

Great call pointing out the diode, I had forgotten about that!

Busa, you need to use the circuit with the diode in it. If I am not mistaken this diode is meant to keep from sending current developed from the "windmilling" fan back into the system.

Busa, if you look in my gallery the wiring diagram is in there. If you want a copy of it sent to you, pm your email address and I'll send it to you.

Dale

Hi Dale, think I was typing my answer while you were typing yours.

Busa10,
I dont see a Brown and a White wire going to a 2 pin connector. I see a Orange and White wire going to the Fuel Injection Warning Light connector. Is that it?

Brown wire and Yellow/Blue Wire in a 2 pin connector connects to another connector the same with same colour wires. One connector supplies power from Fuse 4 (Yellow/Blue) and Earth (Brown). The other connector connects to the Turn Signal Relay pin 1 (Yellow/Blue) and to the front Turn Signal Indicators Earth (Brown). The Turn Signal Relay also has a Black/Orange wire on Pin 2, that Black/Orange wire then goes to the Turn Signal Switch.

I agree with Dale, use the circuit with the Diode in it for the fan. It may possibly be there to prevent back EMF spikes damaging your EFI computer. I reckon though you would be unlucky.

Hey maybe the diode is there in case you tend to ride with 14 front sproket and 38 rear sproket in the bush at 220Kmh. That would stop the fan from charging the battery and blowing up and burning your *** :D

I'll put that on the list of things to do after I tear up a hoydee toydee golf course with the superberg.

You guys are right on with the diode I'm sure. It'll all be clear when I get a look at the wiring diagram.

Thanks again!

Just to close the loop on this, Dale and Davo were correct. There's only one white two wire molex connector for the fan. It's also used for lights if you install them so you'll need to biggyback another connector or hardwire your fan harness into this circuit. This is the power source for the fan harness that comes with the fan kit.

If ya did do that then there would be no need for a cooling fan no ?

I’m just jealous I am such a crap rider
Good luck with your new cam berglsmerg. That is good of Husaberg to come to the party.

Cheers mate, I'm pretty impressed with the action being taken. Dont worry I'm also crap rider but I like sheer terror it gets me off. :pimp:

I desperately need some help. I am trying to install a fan kit on my 09 FE450. The wire harness that came with the fan has two white, two pin connectors (one female, one male). I can only locate one spare connector on the bike to mate with the connector on the wiring harness. It is a female connector with a brown and a black wire with blue stripe. I spent over an hour looking for the second connector. I have the tank off. I even took the shock off so I can follow the wire bundle all the way back to the battery. It does not look like the other harness was used for the headlight as that connector has a different kind of pins. So, I am looking for the male connector. A mechanic at a Berg shop told me the connector has a black and a red wire. There is another connector that runs out of the same bundle as the connector I did find that has three wires (one is the same lack wire with blue stripe that leads to the other connector and the other two wires are yellow with a blue stripe). This is terminated with a black connector but has flat pins (not round) and has a cap with two flat pins pluggged in to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I pull all of my hair out. My e-mail address is [email protected] and I am located in the Danbury, CT area. I am hoping I can look at someone's Berg at the enduro tomorrow to see how they have their fan hooked up. Thanks.

You found it! Fan connects to the 2 Pin connector, Brown Wire (Earth) and a Black/Blue Wire Positive (from a diode).

The Fan kit should have these wires:
A Brown Wire that comes from the "Temperarature Switch" in the Radiator. This connects to the Brown wire in the 2 pin connector you already found.

Then a second Brown Wire from the "Temperarature Switch" in the Radiator goes to the negative on the Fan.

The Black/Blue Positive Wire in the 2 pin connetcor you already found goes to a black wire then an in-line fuse then to the positive on the Fan.

Sounds like you have the wrong Fan Kit?
