09 450 Exhaust Removal?

Hi All,

I managed to kill both my exhaust and the middle part of the exhaust pipe in a crash. To remove the middle part of the exhaust how much of the bike do you need to pull apart as i took the rear shock out but looks like there is much more needed to be removed to allow the exhaust to come out.

Any tips would be appreciated!!!

Cheers,
Alex

To remove the my mid-pipe I removed the rear shock and disconnected the subframe and moved it off to the left hand side of the bike (helps to have someone hold it so you don't have to take all the electrical out). Then I was able to snake the mid-pipe out the back of the bike. I also had already taken off the heat shield but it may come out with it on?

That must have been a bad crash or a precisely placed rock to screw up all that.

As quoted above, remove sub frame and just lay it off to the left side. Remove the shock. Remove the bolts holding the cylinder header, and the clamp that holds them together, along with the mid pipe mounting bolt, plus the top back motor mount.

Once you separate the header and the mid pipe, rotate the mid pipe counter clockwise and it will come right out the back end with the heat shield on.

It was a decent crash. Hit a hidden ditch and tried to lift the front late so ended up looping out. The exhaust took all the force as the pipe was flattened and also bent the middle header out by about 20mm!

I eneded up taking more off until I got the pipe pout but thanks for all the advice. It is not so bad once you get into it plus learnt heaps about how th bike is put together which is good.
