Hello All

Happy New Year!

Am looking for some berg advise.

It seems i have the berg bug, i bought a 06 FE450 several months ago and love the bike.

However the chap i bought this bike from was in the process of doing up a 08 FE550. Anyhow long story short its up for sale and am thinking of adding it to my collection. I went and viewed the bike today. It has lots of upside to it, Brand new rims, new suspension, top end recently done, honed new piston, brand new wiring harness, steering damper ect.

However and heres my concern, the bottom end has not been touched and the bike has done 17k's(17000). Is this alot for a 550? The bike runs fantastic right now but would i be looking at wanting to do bearing replacement on the bottom end soon? How many k's do they typically get before trouble strikes.

Any comments or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Bike is $4200 (AUS)about 2000 pound or US.

Cheers

Good buy! they are great bikes, Check parts availability for the motor and costs (taffy). Ride it till it tells you otherwise,
If you can do it yourself, less any machine work on the head, I would buy it. IMHO

Hi I think at $4000 its a good buy.

I just bought a non runner 550 at $2100 and I think costs for engine bottom end, bearings, rod kit piston and new line will run to about $2000 (Fingers toes and all other appendages crossed).
If its running and not making noises change the oil and filter OFTEN and ride it like it is or get the bottom end checked and replace the bearings for more peace of mind.
Best of luck with adding to the collection as there are a few of us out there.

Thanks for your input, thanks to you also Fedge. I just went back out for a test ride with my mate this morning, the bikes a weapon. Its practicaly brand new except the bottom end which at present is 100% fine. Anyhow my mate bought it, if he didnt i was going to.

Another Berg back on the road.
