08' FE550 Fuel range?

Hi All-
Just picked up an 08 FE550. What kind of mileage/fuel range do you get out of the stock 9l tank in average desert riding conditions?

9 litre?

ummm? I thought it was less? :shock: :shock:

others will tell you but they are only good for about 2.5 on the 7.5 litre tank if that is what you have fitted?

I do a jetting kit that would increase it.
there is a 1.5 litre under seat tank you can still find around in used condition.
then there are the big clarke tanks

I would get 40-50 mpg on my 2004 FE550 routinely and did 132 miles on the stock tank riding the White Rim in Moab one trip, lots of 6th gear. Last November I rode down the Baja with my buddy on his 2005 FE550 and he was getting 45-50mpg consistently. I have the underseat tank and it is right about 3/4 of a gallon.

The manual says the tank is 9L but when it ran out of fuel I only got around 8 in it from memory. I dunno about miles but I get 150kms on my 650. I always fill up around 120 to be safe though. I'd assume the 550 would be about the same.

I'm with 08650...my 550 seems to get far better mileage over my mates 525's. it's an 04 with an 06 tank and I'll get an easy 120 klicks in the bush without reserve even when on the gas pretty heavy
