Hey

The other day I noticed I couldn't start up the bike while in 1st gear and the clutch been held. it looks like the bike wants to go forward (i.e the clutch is not working properly). I checked the fluid level and it is pretty low so I was hoping that is the reason, since I only have 13 hours on the bike.
I wanted to first fill up the fluid before I freak out but the only thing I could find at CycleGear was this: BEL RAY Super DOT 4 Brake Fluid: http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=TUC_44-0024_G

will that do? they told me this is what I should use but I rather ask around first.

Thank you

no it need to be mineral,

Thanks for the quick reply but I'm afraid you are very wrong. It says in the manual: "Husaberg uses Biodegradable hydraulic oil ...Never refill with mineral hydraulic oil or brake fluid"

I do appreciate you though, thank you!

Dot 4 and 5.1 ar Bio. DOT 5 is mineral (again - according to the manual ..)

Your Clutch will tend to do that regardless. I have the same problem with my 08 fe450 on the first start I have to rev up the engine before I drop it in gear otherwise the clutch will not break free and it will stall. I tried topping the fluid and adjusting the clutch and I was told it is the nature of the beast.

Thanks man, I'll check that out tomorrow. I think it happened even when the bike was already hot but I didn't pay too much attention to it.

i would still like to know if I can use that DOT 4or not... I don't want to put any thing which can mass the clutch up..

Do not use DOT 4. I have been using Magura Blood or a high quality motorcycle specific mineral oil. No problems using either.
The clutch dragging can be a few things, and no, it's not normal.
1) could be related to the type and weight of motor oil you are using.
2) clutch hydralics may need to be bled (not likely)
3) clutch steel plates could be warped or hot spotted.
4) the inner clutch hub could have some wear.

So, you can
a) get the very expensive Magura oil, or
B) just use more or less any other hydrauliy/Engine/Transmission/fork etc. oil
Works too, is cheaper and no harm on your sealings

DOT 4/5.1 is a breakfluid - it´s should NOT be used as it´s will eat up the sealings pretty quick -
Done that once

woww.... If that indeed will be the case I'll be very disappointed with the bike. It has only 14 hours from which 7 were ridden babysitting my wife on her TTR125. I would expect a racing horse like the Husaberg to last for a little bit longer with no issues... first the fork seal and now that...
I use the MOTOREX 4T OIL, last time I changed it was a year ago but I rode the bike for only 3 hours since. the bike has been sitting at the garage for the past 8 months with a weekly start up to keep every thing moving...

As far as the DOT4 - Good thing I checked this before doing any thing stupid(er)

Husaberg clutchs are really tough for the most part. Unless you REALLY abused it, the plates or hub should not be a problem.
That leaves engine oil (nothing wrong with Motrex) or bleeding the clutch properly. An oil change is easy enough (I change mine at around 5 hours on the pre 09 bikes (remember there is only 1 lire at the most in the engine and it shares lubricating duties with the clutch and transmission).
Bleeding the clutch is a little more involved.

Mine has been that way since birth and I have tried all of the easy fixes. Motor oil, bleed Clutch fluid, adjust clutch. And I was told that it is normal. I thought it was the same problem as why you cant hit neutral unless your engine is off or your moving. Am I mistaken? Are you referring to the 08 model year?

Good to know I'm not the only one having problems finding Neutral (although I think after a lot of trying I can find it while standing with the engine on - it just takes forever).

mine is an 08 as well. I'll try and change the oil and see if it helps.

I also have a 08 FE 450 and it has the same problems on occasion. Before a cold start I put the bike in gear and roll it to bump the clutch plates loose or just rev it a bit prior to releasing the clutch in 1st gear so it won't stall. Finding nuetral can be a challenge when stopped and engine running but I just live with it. My bike has 50 hours and everything else about it is just fun so I don't stress about it.

Zachill, where in MN are you?

well you guys were right. I checked and after the bike warms up it will start while in 1st. it took a while but since the bike didn't try going forward while in 1st and the clutch held, I assumed the clutch is fine.

I guess I'll wait an change the oil after my next ride...

Thanks again!

Dont get me wrong it can be done but neutral more times then not aint worth the effort and you look like an ***** fishing for N I just leave it or hit the kill switch and get it later. I am currently in Fargo but I live in Brainerd when I am not in school. I want to know what them other people have to say about the clutch I doubt whatever it is applies I got ten bucks they say oil and bleed the clutch. Anyhow im still running fine and mine has been up to those shenanigans since day one. I dont think you have much to worry about I sent a message to a reliable source and I will see what he has to say and I will let you know. Take it easy and enjoy the weather!

Heard back from the boss and he says its not too uncommon put it in third and rock it before you start if it is a bother.

Guys I'm sorry to bother you with this again, but this drives me crazy.

the guy at Cyclegear gave me this Magura Blood bottle and said he is 100% sure this is what I need to refill my clutch fluid. I don't want to change it, just refill it:

It says it is Mineral oil, but at the same time it says it contains Bio hydraulic oil.

On KTM-parts they have this

So what do I need? or they are the same thing in different sizes. Couldn't find any helpful data on Magura's site or searching the forum.

Please forgive my newbie's questions. I still have alot more of them to come...
