Hi,

So last time I rode my berg I cooked it on really tight single track, and the radiator was only half full after the ride...

Now i've discovered that my head gasket is leaking, it's at the front of the engine, I've only noticed it now as the coolant is red and dripped down the sides.

There's some oil coming out as well, would this just be as simple as replacing the gasket, or will there be more damage hidden inside?

The only way is to remove the head and see if the gasket is damaged. Also you should check the head and cylinder for damage. This could happen if your engine overheated or your head screws are loose.

I'm just going to hand it over to a mate who works on bikes to do it, Any parts I need to order other than a head gasket?

If there's anything that can be replaced whilst doing the head gasket that's worthwhile let me know...

I'm getting him to do: head gasket (leaking), kick starter seal (leaking) brake resevoir hose (leaking) and new rear axle (cracked).... If there's anything that would be smart to replace after 8000k that's relatively cheap let me know :)

One question, the thermostat was originally removed, and I believe a new hose was installed... The hose is worn a bit at the end and needs to be replaced but obviously the OEM part won't fit, as it's meant to have the thermostat in it... Can I use a standard heater hose? And what is the ID of the hose?

Cheers

DVSK - from me of course!
a stronger ADC spring - (ditto)
face the inlets
check the exhausts for not seating correctly

both surfaces immaculately clean. I use P600 on a wooden block.

Already planning a $200+ AUD order from you taff so I think you're safe ;)

You wouldn't happen to carry any rear brake resevoir hose would you?
Not the braided hose, just the rubber hose which connects the resevoir to the master cylinder...

Cheers

yes mate. it's called rubber hose... LOL!!!

atually I really do have genuine OEM brake hose!

well, I reckon so! brake fluid doesn't actually do as much harm as people think? I would think that fuel line is made for brake pipe. it has to deal with 2T derv, petrol....

I know that if you convert your clutch to a left-hand brake and use brake fluid, that the fluid wrecks the slosh rubber and the piston seal.
