07 FE450e Backfire/stalling

Let me say first off that this new to me 450 starts when cold with the choke OK. As it warms it tended to hesitate and stall. Advanced the idle screw to eliminate this. Now it runs fine at throttle settings that are even or accelerating, however when you back off even slightly it backfires and runs rough. On restart it runs rough unless you give it throttle. Then all repeats.
Is there anything obvious I should look at? Or just follow the manuals advice as to settings?

Thanks in advance!

G'day Bruce, my 400 was doing the same thing and I found the inlet valves were too tight, once the engine warmed up and they tightened up even more you couldnt start it. cheers Matt

??

As I was removing the carb I discovered that the intake boot between the engine and carb was torn. My thinking is that this is the culprit. Will know for sure when I get the replacement.

Having never worked on a FCR MX before I am amazed at the complexity  , hope this is the cure. :?:

RE: ??

Hey Bruce
I was gunna say it sounds like its running too lean but I think you've answered your own question.

Well...finally received the new boot and installed it this AM. Bike idles better but still bogs when twisting the throttle initially. When I have more time I'll take it out and see if it still backfires.

Finally some answers to the issue....
Seems the diaphram and accelerator pump are both BO. Parts on order and I expect to have some major fun at the end of this month! (leaving for 3 weeks on my road bike in a couple of days)
