06 speedo - bugs n twigs

I have been having some problems with my stock electronic speedo lately.

4 rides ago it began working erratically. Would speed up then fall to zero if I let off throttle even though I was still going 15-20 mph. Got home found a long skinny twig jammed in between the front brake disc and magnet sensor. Pulled it out. The speedo then kinda worked next trail ride. It would record speed and miles for a while then did not record much saying zero when I was moving, etc. Then it really never worked much at all on the 3rd ride, and then yesterday my 4th ride in two weeks, it starts working again correctly for the whole ride.

Anyone had cable failures or similar speedo unit variations and symptoms of failure? The manual says the unit battery is out if the speedo suddenly clears all items to zero and that has not happened. What seems to be happening from the symptoms is like the speedo is breaking down internally or the cable is failing?

Dan says it may be a warranty item may be. Could the twig had put a 3 ride curse on it. Now it’s all better? Weird.

I am sure that Berg uses the same cables that KTM uses, and I can tell you from experience, they are junk. I bet if you replace the cable your problems will go away.

Sometimes the sensor cable gets broken. You may need to order a new one from trailtech.net

ok thanks, I put the same post on KTMtalk to see if anyone else had the same experiences

Hi Bob,

I have replaced mine a couple of times, and had similar symptoms as you when it started to crap out.. They do get tweaked rather easily. Did you check the gap between the magnet and the pick up?? There should be a picture in your owners manual of the correct gap.

The first one I bought was from the dealer I purchased it from. It was almost a Franklin and it was all plastic including the bolt pick up thingie that screws into the caliper hanger. The next one I purchased I got from Dan at motoxotica, I believe that it was an Enduro Engineering one with a metal bollt pick up thingie. Be sure and put anti seize on the bole when you install it. I haven't had a problem with it since.

Oh yeah, it's a good idea to put a few wraps of electrical tape around the speedo wire and your front brake line in a few well spaced places to keep the wire tied to the front brake line to keep it from getting snagged on bushes etc.....

good luck,

good luck,

second that, BOSS puts tape all the way up and down it on all the bergs that he sells. mine has gone 1200 miles with no issue and a couple of bad crashes. the other thing that you can do is the hydrolic wrap they use on equipment, they even sell it in husaberg blue.

the sensor seems to be tight and in place, the magnet looks a hair deeper into the disc then the KTM's I saw in the field and the new Husabergs I saw at Motoxotica, but that maybe my eye. ,,,so i guess the gap is still right...though I thought that twig may have tweeked the gap some, but everything seems pretty solid down there. I have an enduro to run in two weeks. I hope it works for that race, meanwhile Dan has ordered a new cable, will be here in 3 weeks.
