Hey guys, new guy here, first post!

I just brought a 2006 FE450 on Friday! Its done 6100ish miles, and I'm told just had a full service.

I checked the radiator level, and did some other minor checks, everything seemed fine (except low tyre pressure!)

I did experience steam coming from the radiator overflow, when idling for 3-4mins, so topped that up, (I think that this maybe normal? any advice would be great though!)

anyway on Saturday, I had my brother chasing me on his WR450, and he says my berg was putting out white smoke from the exhaust (when he caught me up!) and since then, I would say 3 or 4 times the exhaust has had white smoke, but only for like 20 seconds, then it seems fine, any idea on what would cause this?

Loving the feel of the bike though!

Couple of things you should know about your Husaberg--

First, the radiator cools when there is air flow across the fins. Anytime you let it sit still and idle for three or four minutes, it can get hot enough to spit coolant out. So, don't let it sit running and idle.

Second, the correct level of coolant is when the coolant JUST covers the top of the fins in the radiator, with the bike level. If you fill it to the top, the coolant expands and will overflow until it finds the right level.

It is possible that the white smoke you are seeing is the overflow coolant hitting the hot exhaust. Also, do not over fill the oil either. It should be at the bottom of the sight glass when cold, and no more than the middle of the glass when hot.

Have fun with your new ride.

I was uneasy running the oil level where the manual said to run it. So i added more oil, because those guys who write those manuals, hey, they are dummies , right?
...well, the thing started weeping from the countershaft, and throwing oil all over creation.
I changed the oil, and added the proper amount....and guess what...no weeping oil flying all over the place......go figure.....
I may have been blowing a little smoke too, I don't know......

Ok, Thanks for the info,

Ill double check the oil when I get home, I have a feeling it may be a little overfilled.

any damage I should check for from overfilling oil?

Tom.

Got me....

John,
I cannot say about damage....some of these guys here will know. I am a berg newbie myself....Been my experience that overfilling with oil will not damage anything, really, just make a mess......but this is a husaberg, so , who knows..... :?

RE: Got me....

i would say that you need to replace the headgasket. when you do, really clean the block up and look for a proud or tilted liner and also a step between the two case halves.

Taffy

well, it looks like theres too much oil, its around halfway up the inspection window, so ill change the oil and filter this weekend, along with the coolant, hopefully that will be that!

Tom.

Thanks for the advice guys, changed oil and filters, no more problems.
had a good weekend messing around on the bike, got very muddy!
