Hey all,

I have been a member here for a couple years (and lurking for a few before that) though I have not contributed significantly, mainly because I have had a bad case of orangitis  for the last few years. That is about to change in a significant manner (though the fact that I will again be on a Husaberg this year really isn't the important part of this announcement).

The important thing is that last years AMA Pro Racing 4th place rider and 5th place team in the Unlimited class will be on Husabergs this year!

I had hoped to have a full run down of sponsors and a team presentation to put out in a press release, but I can't hold my tongue any more, and I thought that you guys should be the first to hear.

Last year, in just his first full year of Supermoto racing, and running a basically stock privateer KTM 525 SMR, Robert Loire took 4th overall in the AMA Pro Unlimited series, missing 3rd by just 2 points. Robert never finished worse than 8th the entire season. Meanwhile, Robert also dominated 2 local series winning 6 of 9 events he entered and both championships.

After some slight encouragement from myself  throughout the year, Brett took notice of Robert's skills and has stepped up to help out. We will be a factory supported private team officially known as: Loire Racing Aero PA Husaberg (substitute KTM for Husaberg and you get last years name). Robert will be riding a factory spec bike, while our second rider (me!) will be riding a production based bike out of the dealership.

I am a little bit of an unknown at this point as far as how my performance will be. I had intended on running the series along side Robert last year, but was waffleing back and forth on the decision, then fate made the decision for me when I smashed my right leg in a spring motocross race. I do have one significant Historical Husaberg Note of Distinction (HHNoD): in 1999 I became the only person to qualify and race a Husaberg at the Loretta Lynn's Amatuer Motocross Nationals. (At least I believe that I am the only one to ever do that, though I have had a hard time verifying it, and I believe therefore that it would be equally hard for anyone to disprove it!) I ran the 4 Stroke class against 41 Yamaha YZ400's on a 98 FC501, and finished somewhere in the upper 20's overall.

I look forward to having some more discussions and giving you all updates on our team's developments now that the Force has drawn me back.

Best Regards
Colin Horn

That's exciting news indeed. Let us know as things progress and when your first race is scheduled. Best of luck to you and Robert. I'm sure you'll enjoy racing the Berg's!

Be safe and ride fast! :D

Really cool news :D

Are there some pointers to us non-US where to find more info about the american series. I understand that you have a lot of different champs!?

I googled Roberts name and found some results...
What are the difference between Supermoto (where Ward, Kunzel and the boys hang out) and Supermoto Unlimited (where I found Robert). Supermoto Lites I guess is a 250 4s class?!

Jocke,

Supermoto Unlimited in the AMA series is like S1 in the world series: any bike 490 cc or larger. It has basically been a KTM parade for the last few years with very few Husky's and Bergs mixed in. Hopefully we will improve the color balance a little this year.

Supermoto is like S2 (450 cc), here in the States, the Supermoto class is the premier class and has most of the very best riders.

And you are correct, the Lites class is for 250's, kind of meant to be a development class for younger riders.

Here is a rundown of our tentative schedule. Obviously, we are going to concentrate on all the Nationals first, and get in as many regional races as we can fit in:

Whoa Nelly, I was watching Robert long before that ! The Loire program has always stood out as very professional, and Greg and Robert are some of the most personable racers that I've come in contact with. You, on the other hand, are unproven

We at BMG will do our best to support your efforts, and I look forward to meeting up with you at Fontucky in April.

Cheers,

Brett Saunders

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the news and info. I have not been a SM enthusiast up to this point but this is good reading. I know that SM is a rapidly growing segment of the market and this helps me to get aquainted with the sport and also to connect with another facet of the Husaberg force. I'm sure that as this sport grows even larger that we will here more and more about it I for one will welcome the updates and look forward to learning more about it.

Colin, I wish you good luck in your future endeavor on the track and would like to here any more details of up coming events as well as how things are going for you and your team mates upon the new Berg platforms. Take care and best wishes, may the Force be with you!

Brett, Thanks for the informative link for those of us that do not know much about SM. The SM101 link was helpful in learning more about the sport and will give me something to build upon as I attempt to follow SM.

Regards,

Ok, I got the picture :)
Since the jap manufacturers are so big in your country the smaller cc-class is the main one.
From what I've learned so far your tracks also suit the smaller cc-bikes as well. I think "our" WC-tracks are faster (higher top speed that is) and don't have dirt sections that are so supercross-ish like yours are.

That's a lot of races. Hope you win'em all 8) :!:

I'll enjoy following the team throughout the season :D

I have been called much worse than unproven before! (and by my wife no less, but that is a different story that is probably not appropriate to talk about on this forum  ) jk!

All kidding aside, we are very grateful for the support we are recieving both from BMG, and our families in helping us to operate this wonderful money pit we call a race team. Hopefully with the increased support we are getting this year, Robert and the team can each make a step or two up in the overall standings, and I can not make a fool of myself.

Not ever been on a Euro Track I can tell you I would prefer them for sure, for all the reasons you just stated..... :)

That is great news !! You will receive a lot of support from members of this forum. I am very pleased to now have someone to watch and pull for. This is a great brand and the exposure will do wonders for us all. I recently bought my first berg afer 40 years of riding and I am as excited about it as my first at 14 years old.

Pls keep us all posted..great sport , great brand. . Good luck and Good fortune to you Colin and Robert

Outstanding! Best of luck in '06! Keep us posted (Let me know if you decide to run the "Stateline" round in April as we'll be there too, I'll be easy to spot, I'm the old guy gettin' smoked by 11 year old girls!) 8O

I just talked to Brett and I think I may ride down that way with him for that weekend, so I'm stoked! I just hope his dog Mimi doesn't have gas like the last trip," DAMN Mimi, I felt that one on my leg!"

Thanks all, for the well wishes.

RockyMT / SM610,

As the plan stands right now Robert will be heading out for the Stateline NV race with another Wisconsin pro Mike Bergman (not a Husaberg rider though his last name suggests he might be able to be converted!). I believe that they are planning on running the team race on Friday. Then Robert will be running the Unlimited Pro class Sunday. It doesn't look like there will be much on the schedule for 650's on Saturday, so if you guys know of a place within a couple hours that is open for practice, they might be interested in getting more riding time in while they are out there.

Due to a limited amount of vacation at work (and limited travel budget), I will be sticking around the area and hitting the first round of the Gateway Supermoto Series in Springfield, IL that weekend.

In other news: Robert got the first significant riding time of the year in on the Husaberg. His race bike isn't here yet (this week Brett? ), but he put quite a few laps on my bike and was able to do some back-to-back comparisons with his race bike from last year. After some early frustrations in the day, he and Greg (his dad/chief mechanic) were able to report some good progress in finding some suspension settings that seemed to work fairly well and he was able to string together some good laps. I can't wait to see what he will be able to do on the Factory prepped bike!

We now have a pretty good idea of what all we need to pull together and about a month to get it done before the first really important race in California at the end of April.

Regards,
Colin Horn
