05 fe 650 - Terrible knocking noise when cold or low idle??

Here is a short vid of a very pronounced knocking noise coming from my 05 fe 650. It is really noticeable on cold startup, low idle, and shutdown. The bike idles around 1500, and if I run it up to 2000 the noise abates. It always occurs on shutdown just before the motor comes to rest.

The knock is much more noticeable in person, but hopefully it will come through.

Please make it be cheap.

Thx.

what I would do:
1. check valves (adjust), if not then
2. new timing chain cca 45USD

Mine done that..... I'm now rebuilding it. I think my chain was slapping about.

Thanks guys. I just did a valve adjustment. I also did the Orangeberg thing, and checked the timing chain when the cover was off - it is in good condition and adjustment.

The noise seems more forward in the case - main bearing??

Thx again.

It wouldnt be the auto decomp slapping about due to light spring action? a few extra revs creates extra centrifugel force to throw it out properly? My 650 does it every now an then on cold startup....

i'd look at crank gear being loose or try and shake the crank for mains trouble.
