Okay, yes I know it has been addressed ad nauseam, but to the newby - ATF, mineral oil, baby oil, olive oil, Magura Blood - only serves to confuse.

Add that confusion to this - My clutch master cylinder reservoir reads "MAGURA Use Only Mineral Oil" but the owners manual, and particularly the cautionary note, this:

....and the confusion becomes delirium!!!

What should I use; and if it is mineral oil, is it the hardware store stuff or where would I find the right stuff at around 10 weight?

Thanks.

Steve

The stuff in your bike is 100% shimano mineral oil.

I bought it at a bicycle shop. It's used in hydraulic disc brake systems on mountain bikes.

They don't always have small containers available for sale. I brought a small (?4?) ounce nalgene bottle and they poured me some from their jug.

IMO, drugstore MO is too thick and air bubbles can stay put, instead of rising up to the MC.

Also, handle the oil carefully so as to not introduce air.. ie.. don't shake the bottle.

I use BP Bartran HV 15, for suspesnion and clutch its $150 for 20L

ISO viscosity 15 Centistrokes, same as most 2.5wt suspension fluids
