Owners of this bike, How well does the bike start when Cold, or hot with the E-Start? I've herd in the past that they had problems.

Dennis

The 04 and 05's seem to be very dialed in. My 05 450 (20 hours) e-starts without fail flawlessly. Hot or cold. I have never even kick started it yet :D

Just picked one up today, seems to start great. I tried when I got home with the kickstarter, that's even ok. BTW, the bike's an animal!

Have had my FS650 05 since late september and the bike has never let me down. Not even after I neglected her for long periods of time during winter.

The earlier models is ok also if you just keep the battery charged, the valves adjusted and the little gizmo on the cam in fit.

When you mention the bike's an animal, what exactly do you mean? I'm looking for the "Roll on power" simular to the KTM 450 EXC, but wanting the 650 having way more torque roll on thunder power. (predictable power).

How's the vibration factor of the engine?

Thanks for any further info guys,
Dennis

Oh, and thanks for the previous info about the E-Start......

fs650e e-start

just to concur----------I've had my 05fs650e for three months now and have not used the kick-start yet!!
Although the bike feels quite smooth (similar to my xr650) some bolts have come undone and the bracket holding the horn and the master cylinder have fractured------not a big deal and certainly nothing to temper my enthusiasm for the bike.

Just got home from the first ride on the bike in the mountains. Power is controllable, kind of like my 520 EXC & 525 EXC were only more! It's geared way higher, 15-40, I may gear it down some. It starts perfect off the e starter, hot or cold. I did find when getting the bike home it kicked hard but thought that would be normal for a 650. Checked the valves, the exhaust was a little loose, adjusted them. Now it kicks easy, they were loose enough the decomp wasn't working. The bike handles great, when on the power like winding uphill thru trees it is very stable. Doesn't blow the tire like some "hot" bikes will. Love that 4 stroke power! I didn't really notice the vibration, we rode about 87 miles yesterday & I wasn't beat from it.

Good timing on this topic for me. I had pretty much decided on a 550 because I know they will start on the button. What I would like is a 650 but if I get another one it needs to start consistently on the button. I have a hard time with left side kickstart up high and short legs. Good to hear 650 has also improved greatly on e start without a weight penalty. Maybe I should try to get a new 650 instead?

Mine was starting even on the estart before I adjusted the loose exhaust valves. Can kick it now, but starts perfect on the button. I'd recommend the 650, same weight.

I ended up buying an '05 550 because the cost of owning a 650 was a lot higher due to 1. Higher life insurance premiums, 2. Testicle reduction surgery. 3. Psychiatrist fees, just to name a few. :D

Good ones :D

I can definately understand how a 650 should raise life insurance premiums. The bike is crazy freaking fast, especially when you are in sixth gear. Things become a blur
