Just thought i would share some good times with the older Berg owners,
Ive been doing a couple of Moto cross meetings on my old 2005 bike and its still as competitive as any new model and i love it. This Hybrid is an 05 550 FC frame with a 650 FE 05 engine, FS lighter ignition, Full Berg Titanium system with shortened silencer, Omero 5l alloy tank, Tall seat, Talon 19'' wheel set, Race Tech forks and heavier shock spring. No electric starter or battery to save weight.
So if you think your old bike is over the hill maybe its not, although it is better on the bigger more open tracks.
Throws a mean roost and has unlimited power spending most of the race on the back wheel.
cheers ORANGEBERG

Last time i race you we were both on KX125's lol Now we both have almost the same bikes again. Experience does count and you have alot so no wonder you are still going well.

Impressed. I have thought about doing the "strip weight and modify" on my old 450. I raced a grass track last year at Barrabool and the old thing didn't seem to lose any ground to the CR / YZ F's.

Even better would be an 00 model FC600/501, problem is they are as rare as rocking horse poo. Would love to get one of these and improve modify

Any photos of the beast Orangeberg?

i will try to get some pics attached, there is a jpg image on the first page of the thread i will try to find more, the smaller alloy tank is a must have either 5 but the 7 in the same width. Regards John, i have a lot of mates down Barrabool way who once ran the club i may head down soon for a meet if its still going.

I can tell you the FS650 is. I just won the Oregon Superbikers series championship on an '05!

Hey John, how are you going? where are you at now mate? want to touch base on catching you on a ride across the country next year.

Drop us a line sometime.

Good to hear you are still roosting it mate - that bike was amazing, i remember it at the 2007 Force Ride.

Azza.

Nice action shot.

I see a full akro system? So not short of HP then?
I just bought an akro slip on from a forum member but now need 05+ 450 header pipes. Any spares laying around...?

I'm getting the bug to modify the hell out of my 450 now, so next step will be starter and battery delete & to compensate, some kind of auto clutch. Possibly one of those dyno-ring jobs so it doesn't stall. I suppose they wont stop a flame out though, rare as that is.

Nice one John.

Long story short, I lent my 07 FE650 to a guy I sort of know from Cairns who was visiting a month or so ago for a weekend in Kowen Forest. Much tight gnarly and steep single track, and limited fire trails. He was a bit intimidated at the thought and was coming off a late model KTM300, but has owned and raced things like KTM 520 and a CR500 in years gone by. I explained to him to use the clutch and not the throttle for speed control and he couldn't get the grin off his face all weekend and is looking for one to buy. He couldn't believe the engine, and that a 650 could work so well in the tight stuff. And the suspension did not deflect, just soaked it all up, just did everything right, just like we know they do, but most don't.
:bounce3:

Yes Yes.. I have 2 of them. They are 05 FEs. It's easier to leave someone on the trails with the 650, once you find
the open straights. That's where you gun it big time shooting mounds of dirt from the rear tire.
These bikes are a blast.

I'm with you John, my FE 550 brings a smile to my face everytime I throw a leg on her...I did the Kenilworth chookchase in QLD this year, and had many comments about my Primo "old" Berg..from many 70degree 450 and 570 owners....thanks I said, she goes just fine......just don't get in the way out on the mountain on those new fangled electronic models and you'll be ok, I'd hate to have to ride over you on the trail.....

Cheers

This is a completely different bike, the 07 you seen looks old now and is up for a rebuild. im not up for any rides as im looking to head up to Cape York in July if i can fund a KTM 990 adv.
I have some mates from Geelong doing a crossing this year as they done it years ago and it was one of the best.
