'04 fs450 'tard...

The local dealer is blowing out some '04 450 'tards.....I love the look of the bike but have no idea what it rides like....
I'm looking for a track bike for this year, and I think this may fit the bill.....can anyone tell me reliabitly issues if any? How well will it hold up to being flogged constantly? (for comparo, I've beat my DRZ relentlessly for 2 1/2 years now on track, off road, and highway, pulled it apart, and everything is still good so far (piston and rings worn) but waaaay better than expected)
And how would this bike compare to a 'tarded YZ450f on the track, would they be closely matched or is one clearly superior?
any info on the '04 450s would be greatly appreciated, Thx

welcome mike

the 450 was the year that husaberg got it all right at last. there was an issue on the dirtbikes of headers touching front tyres but that was the dirtnbikes. otherwise very reliable.

powerwise though i think you'll be down. it's accepted that these are about 6hp down on the yams etc but forget the OHC v DOHC thing it's more a case of all the knowledge, help and industry is with the japs.

we have the knowledge and proof here of finding that missing HP nop problem but the bench racing will be between you and the mirror. at least you can share a lot of info with the 650 boys...

you're better off racing a jap 450 because all the support is there. these 450's would make excellent cheap roadbikes for people now.

where is the power to be found on the fs450? is it massaging some headwork? maybe a cam? or is there more to it?
The reason why I ask for comparo to the YZ450 is 'cause I've ridden/raced one, and my main race buddy has one....I'd like to be able to play competitively with him for once, instead of having him "hold up" for my ol' DRZ...haha

I realize the good rep of the jap bikes, but there's allot of things offered by the 'berg that I dig, not to mention, it's HAWT!!!

plus a one year warranty!!!

although dale doesn't have a graph in his gallery i'm sure he can rustle one up for the 450. why? have you got a rev counter ready to change gear at the right moment?

thought not! i can see more expense in your crystal ball...

try looking in 'the doc' and go to tuning. lineaweaver has a better needle and even takis in greece has these amazing airfilters that i would think give .75bhp.

in the tuning guide you'll note that you can port the head for more power and put even larger valves in.

i would think that there is a better exhaust system out there but few if any help low down. i believe a doma from the uk/france is designed to belt out power low down.

i understand your enthusiasm but try to practice a lot on the bike and most mods will become obvious.

i'd spend all my money on suspension because WP is not very good and there is so much you can do.

The berg 450 was completely inferior to the others this first year of manufacturing. For enduro excellent, for motard, I would not touch it with a bargepole - sorry! I think you'd end up disappointed (I know I would).You'd be so much better off just looking for a 550 at least.

I should clarify this is down to the engine, not the handling. Handling is very good.

Cool, I appreciate your guys honesty!!! Usually, on enthusiast site's people will argue for their brand of bike regardless of it's short comings.

I'm hoping to get my DRZ-e back together within the next 2 weeks, so, another friend who *just* scored a 'berg fs450 and I are planning to go for a ride and see how our 2 bikes stack up against each other....

Short of that, Again I'd like to say thanks for your feedback! I'll def. keep my eyes open at other possibilities....Oh, where to go with my desicion!? haha....
