04 fe450 a step into the unknown

I am thinking of buying an 04 fe450 but cant get the reliability issue out of my head. I impressed with what ive seen of the bike but cant find anyone whose had one for some un bias feed back. Ive just got rid of a DRZ400e which was totally bullit proof and I realize that a Berg will need a bit more TLC than the suzi but I dont want to spend hours on hours in the garage or throw stacks of money into a never ending pit.I just want to trail ride for five or six hours at the weekend and spend an hour or so jet washing down and changing oil when I get back. Is this the bike for me and is there anyone who has an fe450 with some hours on it who can give me some feed back?

my mate ran one last season purely to race and one long trailing weekend in north wales.

first race it wouldn't start on the grid. the carb breather pipes had melted.

next, he had the ignition pack up twice in three months.

next. nothing. bulletproof. loved it. great results. happy as larry.

disappointed that the resale is down on it but otherwise fine.

this season after 7 years on bergs he has bought a husky 450 and says it has more grunt but feels 20lb's heavier than the husey.

his bike was an early production model (the UK get them nearly first) and it was sorted soon after.

now do i sound even handed or tell me?

hope you like the new berg and welcome to the site.

regards

Taffy

Taffy,
Curious about ongoing berg "life" how many kms or hours had the bike ended with at the end of the season? :?:

Know the feeling of poor resale. :(

don't know that one. i can only say he would have ridden in about 15 enduros for the season. 50-60 hours?

50 hours for me equates to approx. 2500kms (time for freshen up)
does anyone know of really long life 'bergs? ie 200 hours. what TLC have they required along the way?

this conversation is going **** up. if you have no bearing reliability issues from '03 and even '02; why do you need to know that an '04 or an '05 did this mileage?

my '02 has only had the head off it. i've thrashed the thing to death and it's well overdue new bearings as are many bikes of that age. BUT they're reliable.

i see this as a waste of time.

blink, what do you think as you asked us the question? or aren't you REALLY interested and we're all doing this as a pointless exercise?

quite frankly the sooner husaberg make bikes that 'frag' the better.

the conversation would be more interesting even if the bike was more work....

re: step away from the flask...

Taff,

You do realize that BLINK and benk are two different people right?

It seems that you've posted yourself into a frenzy, but the original poster hasn't replied yet.

Just checking to make sure you're not doing a meltdown on us sir.

thanks,

Now Taf, I thought we all agreed, you're not to drink and drive the internet...

sorry lads. i lost it. and i was doing so well as well what with the pills, the squeegy balls and all the advice from tuts....

so big, so big, so big....

i think we've answered blinks question. if he comes back and says "ta!" then that's good and we've done our job ut he won't be the first to

1) register
2) ask us BEFORE he MIGHT buy a husey
3) never seen again!
= was anyone listening too us? was the effort of replying worth it?

let's see if blink replies?

where's your money boys?

Taffy
