since i have had the 501(got it about 2 months ago) the auto decomp hasn't worked. i pulled it out and built it up with weld and re machined it to see if that was the problem.... anyway when i put it back on the spring seems to slip off the flat section on the shaft so i bent the spring to make it hold and now it works like i thought it should.... but now i am worried as the spring tension seems to be excessive.

so what i really want to know is there any way that the spring tension can be measured??
i kicked it over with the spark plug out and the cam + gear exposed and it wasn't enough centrifugal force to make it move at all.

i just wanted to make sure before i put it back together!!!!!!!!!

thanks

it should flop open quite easily. instead of 3/4 turn otf tension it sounds like you went for 1 3/4.

i've just done one this morning so it's fresh in my mind. the long arm of the spring wants to be aligned and flat with the cams 'D' section otherwise you have it the wrong way up.

the decomp should be trying to throw out/no bump: but the spring tries to bring it back in and centre it again and show the bump.

letting go of the weight from the outside edge down it should flop like yer "old man" would into your hand!!!!!! and if you have to ask what "your old man" is then you need some series help!
