02 reg berg fs 650 s/moto starting problems?????? first time

Hi there,
firstly on the kickstart make sure the de-comp cables are adjusted properly, if you don't have a manual look on the owners docs to the left. Hopefully that'll help you past TDC.
Then check your spark, again the owners docs. Theres a whole section in there on poor starting and what to check.

i'm guessing you may not have any manual go here and download the various manuals that are relevant to your model.

will come in handy.

if you need a new starter motor one off a yamaha r6 will do the job, 2nd choice being from a honda cbr6

Well you probably should have just purchased an 04 or newer model but its too late now so .....................

These areas and perhaps others will need to be updated / improved:

Battery

Starter motor and bracket

Autodecompression device

Rewound stator

Camshaft (maybe)

Dual valve springs (would be nice)

Additional things to tend to:

2003 rocker arm assemblies (will not have an effect on e-starting but should be done at the next the service interval)

Double row counterbalancer (at the next tear down, check with Taffy)

Updated cam chain

Updated cam chain tensioners

Updated cam sprocket (if yours is aluminum)

Keep the motor mounts tight and the swingarm bolt well lubed as this can help the cases from cracking in that area.

The 01 & 02 models have some issues. I hope I didn't frighten or upset you too much.

I would study each issue here by using the search function. Start at the top of the list and work your way down. It sometimes helps to print out topics and organize them in a notebook as there are a few different ways to approach each issue.
