its split basically ... i read the owners manual bit but cant make sense of it !!

"Splits easily, oil in carb if inverted. Fit Yam WR4 breather and feed down onto front sprocket or below... Re-route to get cleaner air to carb. Block underside of frame, a NAPA Auto Parts 5/8" (1.5cm) radiator heater hose Bypass Cap P.N. 660-1696 is a perfect fit, point a 6' hose up, and fit a K&N filter. Or fit an air pump check valve (Chrysler #04300376 cost is about $30)."

somebody translate ?? please

does it basically mean re route the hose to open air and block off the hole in the frame ???

Yes that can be one option, but what you read was using a one way valve so water or something else doesn't comes it to the engine.

There is the option of one recovery tank of some form.

You can try one simple solution that is to put one foam inside the breath tube, use one "open" foam (don't know the correct word). That should do the job.

cracking, so this isnt going to cause any of my running issues then, its just a cosmetic thing then aslong as its protected from any crap getting down the breather tube.

sorted
cheers zaga !!

Hi
It's not just a cosmetic thing, most of the times, if you don't do nothing, the breather tube will put some engine oil in to the frame, that oil will go all the way down in to the carb boot, and in to the carb.

The original boot has one salience that will retain most of it from going in to the the holes of the bellmouth, that can obstruct specialy the one of the pilot circuit. That can make your bike harder to start. When runing, the bike will eat the oil with no problem, but at start can cause you difficulties.

Ahhhh that will explain the sludge i cleaned out of my frame today then!!
So it is more benificial to blank off the frame and re-route the breather to either a valve or other means of stopping crap getting in??

Cheers!!

I have an 05 650, it's got two outlets on the valve cover. It HAD a y-pipe. I've since blocked off the frame and the rear spigot. I am running the hi-speed check valve.

I do have a new breather for a 2000-2003? With just the one hose. I put it on for a bit then switched to the checkvalve. If you don't want to do the checkvalve mod I'll sell it for $20 plus shipping. I think I paid $35 for it. (i bought it from reno KTM)

My bike used oil before, I had to add a few ounces at 5 hours.
Now It burns a very small amount, I don't need to top it off anymore.

on my 02 650 which tended to smoke under high revs, i wanted to see how much blowby i had , so after blanking off the frame, i hooked a piece of heater hose about 2 feet long up toward the frame then down the right side of the radiator. i then fastened a small catch can and rode it like that for a month. never did get much in the can, so i took it off, stuffed some steel wool in the hose and it became my new breather. i still am using it on my 400.
