02 FS650 E low voltage issue

Hi all, I have a issue with my charging system where I'm getting a low voltage on the DC circuit at higher rpm.
I've replaced the original head, tail and indicators with led types. Indicators and head light were on the DC circuit and tail on the AC circuit. I'm pretty sure the issue was there before this was done.
I've looked through the forum and initially thought there was too much load for the reg rectifier, so I replaced it with a 140w two phase reg rectifier. I joined the two yellow phases from the stator to the new reg rectifier and the blue (seperate) to it as well. No luck though. I get 10-12vdc at idle and 6vdc at high rpm (no load)
What doesn't seem right is I get the same low voltage readings on the ac side (measuring at connections) to the reg rectifier from the stator.
But if I disconnect the reg rec and measure from the yellow's to blue I get 13-14vac at idle and 40vac at high rpm.

Im not too sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

Hi

Not sure if I can help you, but...

This is a 2 single phase stator, probably is what you mean about your reg/rectif when you say 2 phase ??

I've never joined the 2 yellows, but don't know if that's a good idea, don't know if they are "in phase" or if they are just killing each other ??

When you say you measure the yellows without the reg/rect, you are measuring each one, or you are measuring both joined together ?

Hi Zaga,

Yes two phase stator and I've got a two yellow wire input reg/rec.

It was from this forum that I got the idea to join the yellows together. So both coils are running in parallel which should give more Wattage.

I have started the bike and tested the yellow to blue wires seperate and get 13-40vac for each. I've also put a power source on the reg/rec and it's working fine.

Seems like my stator cannot take any load. But the ignition side is ok. Think I will have a closer look at the stator and flywheel.

Thanks

Hi

Usually it's the opposite, the ignition side is the one that breaks and the power side last forever.

But in your case there can be something wrong ??

My question was, if you join the yellows, before or after the reg/rect ?

If it was after, I can't see any problems, it's DC, but before the reg/rect you have AC. I don't know if the both AC waves are in sync, if they aren't they can be killing each other. You know what I mean ;)

This is just a thought, you can try with just one yellow to the reg/rect and compare results.

In the original you have one yellow to the reg/rect and other to lights

You can always rewind the stator if that is the problem.
