hi

still having problems with my 02 fe501s ...

the valves have just been adjusted.

but when riding and holding an even speed and rpm, the engine is not running ideal!

hard to explain, but its like "crotcheting", running uneven and making it very unplesant to ride...

any ideas... carburator settings? etc?

hope u understand what i meen :p

help!

Nope,A Little More Info Please,Hours Carb Fitted,Type Of Riding,Etc

i think you have a wire that's earthing out your spark. i don't think it's fuel this time. is the stutter like an "on/off" switch? if not it's carb but if it is - i think it's electrical.

what work have you carried out on the bike?

tnx....

the engine has gone aprox 30 hours afther total overhaul (everything changed!!)

if it is electrical, witch it very well could be, how can I check it?

could it be the carb itself, or just adjustments? any "default" settings?

RE: 30

start out by disconnecting one wire at a time and tightening the ft again with pliers. silicone all joints so that it squidges out. look for bare wires chaffing on the frame somewhere. start the bike without the tank on in a dark garage. you'll get about 3 minutes out of it. you're looking for a spark getting away and a whip cracking noise.

then move onbto a new plug and cap. BTW, silicone the HT lead at each end.

hat's a start. try that and then go deeper with a multimeter checking everything. v
you should still pull the carb apart and check the pilot jet and the two jets in the front faceof the carb. wash in jizer then water then blow with an air jet.

good luck

Check to make sure that there are no air leaks on the intake side of the carb. Another thing is check the throttle cable routing, might have taken all the slack out of it. Makes for a jerky ride. Some ideas hope this helps.

mrjimh, I agree with wildbill. I have an 02 with the dellorto carb, and have found that the cable routing and free play are important. Also check the top of the carb, and make sure the o-ring is ok, and the two bolts holding the cap down are tight, I had an embarrassing moment with that one, the bike was running fine except at idle, it would take a few seconds to idle down, once at home, I jiggled the throttle cable and the top popped of the carb! I am very happy that happened in the garage and not on the mx track I was riding on the day before. Hope this helps.

My 99 501 had power problems as you seem to be experiencing. a new Spark plug and cap is easy fix for most eleccy problems. my problem turned out to be good old english rainwater causing kill switch to earth. Also check colour at the core of spark plug when it plays up. this will show if running weak or sucking air. if it is too light then you got a fuel/air prob not eleccy. hope it helps!

Water in your carb ??
Old crap petrol ??
Left a rag under your air filter ??
Still got the bung in your tailpipe ??
Carb breathers blocked ??
Start with the obvious, i always say...
...then check your spark etc etc
Good look sir

99% of the time when a dirt bike is running like crap or not at all it's the carb.

I have had the issue with the Berg (dirt in jets), with the DRZ 250 (stuck float valve - would not start when first potential buyer showed up, duh), the WRF 250 (crap in the carb, old gas, missing washer from kid "working" on his bike) and even the SX 125.

Drain the carb and the tank, take carb apart (take not of how many turns out every screw is at), clean it up good (look at the videos in the download section) and try again.
