Another thing to do when adjusting the valves is after you get them adjusted is spin the engine around a few times and recheck them again by feeling for slight up and down movment on the rocker shafts. i usually spin the engine around a few times and check them, then spin it a few more times and check it, etc.etc. till i fell its good, also just check for lateral movement and adjust as needed.
I had a hard time kicking my bike initially because i had electric start which was cool and easy, lol, but really, i didnt go far enough past tdc, basically i would push through the pressure then stop just past the point of no pressure, one day on accident i went a little past the point of no pressure where it feels like the kicker falls into a notch or groove (which i thought was way past tdc) then kicked it from there and will start every time in one or two kicks, but if im in a hurry and dont get it into the nitch before kicking it will not start for sure,
now i only buttonstart it unless restarting after being tipped over, or if on uneven ground so i cant stand easily to kick it.
i dont know how the manual decompressor works on your bike with the lever, mine is auto decomp with no lever, so i guess i cant help there, i wouldnt throw it off a cliff though, it will be worth it once you get it figured out! if you decide to go ahead with the cliff thing let me know the gps coordinants of the cliff and ill plan a rescue misson, im not saying i want to buy it, just that i would pick it up from the bottom of a cliff is all

I live in loganville which is a tiny town near baraboo, a couple hours south of you, im in the shop most weekends bring it down, the feilds are still clear so we can test drive it good too!

Well I readjusted the valves again yesterday and now it fires right up!! Runs like a champ! We'll have to get together for a riding session sometime for sure!
