Stuck in a Dilemma. I ride a 08 Sx250 woods convert, Just moved upto the back of the Experts pack in Enduro's I'm 20 year old and about 190 pounds all gear up. At a test day and rode the Husaberg models at the weekend and feel in love with the Fx450. I'm trying to hold out for a new 011 Sx in hope for Direct injection but I have that thing that I want to try something new.

My fear is results going backwards If I move to a Fx450 Irish Enduro's are wet and sloppy with lots off rocks and roots. I find the Sx brilliant in the woods but the husaberg has me dreaming its something totally different, Going from the 95Kg Sx to a 110Kg 450 is what worries me. I only rode the Berg for 15mins at a time and found it good but after 6 hours on the saddle would I manage it? Anybody else moved from the 250 smoker to a 450 and rides in the rough stuff ?? Of course the Electric Start is such a bonus no flooding or kicking once you come off IMO that makes up for the weight diff.

have you ridden the 390. id go for that over the 450 if were in your shoes, but then i dont ride experts.

Yes I tried the 390 It seems nice as a Enduro bike but after riding Mx'er in Enduros it seems to be a little too tame, but the Fx feels a lot more stable when riding fast. I've got a good deal on a Fx at the min and the dealer is been sound enough to let me test my bike back to back with my Sx. So I am going to give that a bash this weekend and see what I think about it.

i did like the fx when i tried it. found the engine seemed easier to keep spinning with the close ratio gearbox though i liked the handling of the enduro bike better.

though i know that i havent really got the fitness to ride either fast all day. saying that i've just bought a 450 only cos there arent any second hand 390' about yet

Mxdave's dilema......

I was also down at the test day as I had a case of "curiousity wants to kill the cat syndrom" due to having a notion of wanting to revert back to a 2-stroke. I currently ride the husaberg 2010 390 and before that I had an 09 fe450 + a 09 570..... (just traded in this evening for a fx450 !!) Before i decided to go for the husaberg I was riding a 08 te250 and started to do some enduros have way through 2008.At that time I thought I was struggling to keep any sort of speed and thought it might be a good idea to revert back to a 2-stroke wr250.... Although the bike was miles lighter than it's 4-stroke counter part, I actually struggled with it as the four stroke was easier to ride in the majority of conditions.... Compared to the husaberg I can safely say the te250 was a bag of *****. Although I'm not expert material I can truefuuly say my speed and confidence has come on leaps & bounds... I can put this down to 2 things..... firstly bike time with people who are quicker than me (i.e Big Phil, John O'Neil etc... to name a few) and secondly because I never ridden a bike like the husaberg that can do what it does in all types of conditions. Yes a 4-stroke is inherently heavier to lift if your unfortunate enough to come off and this in it's self only becomes apparent in certain situations, but when your actually riding the new husaberg's there's no deference to that of a 2-stroke........ hope this helps.

RE: Mxdave

Gordy What made you go from the 390 to the Fx?

Think your right, They do feel like a 2 stroke thats what I love about them. I was out last night with powderly, tolan, R Lynn they all think I'm a bit mad to go for a 450 cause when your on the last 2 hours you really feel it. Then again Don't knock it till you try it.

RE: Mxdave

It's not that the fe450 was a hand full..... far from it. I was in the fortunate position of having the choice of either staying on the 09 450 or moving to a new 2010 bike....this was a new model out on the market and I fancied the change to the 390. Trust me when I say that I found myself in a real dilema at the time because the 450 was so easy to ride, it was bullet proof, didn't damage easily and there was a good back up service from the Husaberg dealer..... I really questioned if I actually needed / wanted to change.

The fx450 is definately a different cattle of fish, it feels lighter, definately has a stronger pull compared to the fe450 & 390.. (i.e taller 1st gear... I'm not sure if this is actually going to be benifcial.... it has a stronger pull from the revised ignition map, even on the soft setting) but I've a strong notion with a little tweeking here & there it could be a slightly better bike for pure off road use + it'll definately make a good mx'er.... which is something I'm gona get back into in some way shape or form in 2010.

At present I'm keeping the 390 just in case the fx450 doesn't cut the mustard as a full on enduro bike.... if it proves to be a better alternative to the 390 I'll end up selling the 390, keeping the fx450 for enduro, cross country & mx.... only time will tell!!

I've already sorted the steering out as this was something I didn't like when I test rode the bike last weekend in the ktm/husaberg test day.
