'01 to '04 frame comparison

had a trial run tonight of my new frame more than anything to prove that my completely rebuilt gearbox actually works. i have done all the electrics for the first time in 4 years and will attempt an MOT with it so i can go for a pre-moab ride with cypher and kez.

the difference in the frames appears to be small stuff such as support around the swingarm pivot, an eyelet to hold the electrics, the two frames also have to mount different electrical gear and coils etc.

the old coil of the SEM ignition was simply turned on it's side and at an angle that only one bolt hole is used. the HT lead points horizontally to the right of the rider but neatly drops to the plug. the earth carousel found another bolting point and the regulator was positioned under the seat as before.

the head angle change is done by keeping the highest part of the headstock the same but material is lost in steepening the headstock from here.

can't say how close the headers will come at present but i can say that the middle pipe is forced nearer the shock and the carb by the middle mounting. it's either that or the really heavy fall i had the last time i rode which was at a rocky circuit. all my left header is bashed up so ......

testing will happen soon but we've had masses of rain.

RE:

ok, test rode it yesterday and hd it bottoming the forks everywhere. so more weight on the front straight away means that the forks are upset.

but around tight turns the front wheel was under the bike and although not quicker at present, at least i felt connected to the bike's wheel.

the tyre, a mich S12 wasn't touching the standard pre '04 headers? no idea why i should be lucky?

i need a dry track to get the best out of her so we await!

i aksed my dealer and i asked the importer. bugger me if i didn't get an email about a month later: they were breaking an '04 for sidecarcross and had covered their money on the engine.

i got the frame for £300 and it included the yokes, footrests, inner mudguards on the rear. these items were all needed and i felt i got 3100 back there. my original footrests were completely 'had it'. mudguards always wear out and the yokes were the later type with the alloy post. i'd sold the OEM one's a month before.
