'01' cam with dual springs

Hi folks,

KTM 400 and, maybe several other models if I recall, are running '01' profile camshaft. Nonetheless, they are also running dual springs with '01' profile. Then if we assume '01' Husaberg camshafts and '01' KTM's share the same profile, it should be possible to use dual springs used in conjuction with 01 camshafts in KTMs in Husabergs? As per the doc, later than '01' camshafts can go with dual springs. But it should also go with '01' in this case? What do you think?

Hello Faust,

I think it has to do with the titanium valves. The 2005 Husaberg 450 uses the same titanium valves as for example the 2005 KTM 450 SX (part # 59436031000 & 59436030000 ). For both engines you'll find a double spring kit (Husaberg part # 80036028044 and KTM part # 59436128044 ). The cam shaft for the 450 is the same part # as for the other models except for the 650.
Double springs for steel valves is a different issue, go with the recommended after market spring kits or check the KTM kit I mentioned in an earlier post (but the reliability has not been verified anyway yet!!).

Best regards,
Stephan

the '01 doesn't have the lift or duration of the 53/55 cams. it therefore means that the valves should be missing the piston by a good distance.

the '01' is a poor cam. i changed to the 53 in about 2003 and i told everyone on many a post and PM how you could jump a ditch with the 53 but the '01' had to drop a cog and rev the nuts off it to make it go.

but the '01' cam would be the safest of the old style cams to try it on.

remember, i don't allow fitment of my dual spring kits to the 53 or 55 cams.

regards

Taffy

Thanks for the info,

I am already aware of titanium valves.I searched KTM manuals and found that for example 2004 400EXC and 2002 400-520 uses steel valves and double spring but part#59036028244.

for me,the power is not as important as reliablity and long lasting.thus I would like to go to double springs because they are reliable and soft.
also I can adapt KTM cams to husaberg and I wonder if aftermarket race cams for over 500cc are suitable for 400cc husaberg in terms of power&torque.Maybe the head needs porting or what?excessive duration may kill performance in 400cc due to less vaccum effect on intake??waiting for your comments
