00-08 Clarke Tank Fuel Taps

I just replaced the fuel taps on the 05 with a Clarke tank. One original tap was leaking and the other I had replaced when I purchased the tank with a Husky tap off of a 610. I think most who have this tank have installed the Husky tap on the left side as it points the fuel line in a better direction and is small and easy to turn on and off. It just unscrews to open.

There isn't a rebuild kit for the Husaberg taps so you just buy new ones. I wanted to try the taps that Taffy has as they have a reserve and are supposedly easier to turn on and off. I didn't have time to order one but will get one the next time I place an order with him. The original Husaberg taps are quite hard to turn.

Anyway, my main purpose for this post is to memorialize the part number for the KTM tap I located. I found the almost exact same tap as the Husky tap in the KTM parts catalog. Its off of a 2000-2012 50cc and 1998-2012 SX MINI JR SR 65cc.

The part number is 58507003200

It bolted right up with no modification.

The new stock Husaberg tap required that the two bolt holes be drilled slightly larger in order to match up to the Clarke tank.

I substituted slightly thicker HNBR O-rings for the ones that come with the taps and added an additional o-ring to insure no leaks.

i am currently fighting fuel flow with my new-to-me '04 650. i swapped the '04 tank with the lever type no-reserve petcocks with an '06 tank that has a lever type that drops down instead of exiting sideways. i am using this bike as a dual sport with a 43t sprocket and find that cruising at 60-65 mph on the road causes it to starve for fuel. last nite i installed one of the husky screw-types on the right and will check it out later today. anybody else have a fuel flow problem with a 650?
i never tried it using the stock tank.

Hi Ned,

A couple of observations.

What size fuel line are you using? The 3 commonly found ones in stock at most stores is 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8". From what I have seen most are using 1/4" because it will fit snug, very snug, but it is really too small. 5/16 and 3/8 can be used but requires hose clamps. 5/16 fits good at the carb (FCR) inlet only as it is a bit bigger than the fuel taps.

The correct fuel line size is 7.5mm or 9/32nds I.D. no one seems to stock this odd ball size except Sudco Part # 009-062.

I ordered some 7.5mm Braided Cloth Fuel Line from Amazon a few days ago. This original style braided fuel line seems to have been used on old VW's and Porsches and can be found on restoration web sites. I'll let you know if its any good.

Another thing to consider is that on the Husky 610's they use the tiny on / off screw type tap on the left side but instead of joining the right side fuel line with a brass T connector the fuel line runs over to a right side tap inlet and then the combined fuel exits the right tap. Perhaps this set up somehow increase inlet fuel flow to the carb.

If you or someone has replaced the carb overflow and vent hose there is the possibility that those are the incorrect size. The FCR takes a 4mm or 6/32nds hose and those commonly sold at stores are 3mm or 1/8". Sudco has the correct one part #009-005. I have seen the original pink hose on e-bay but is quite pricey.

The gas tank cap hose should be 5.5 mm or 7/32nds. 1/4" is 6mm.

Slight restrictions everywhere may be contributing to the fuel starvation issue or maybe you just go too fast and need to slow down.

the fuel lines are stock, prob 5\16 (8mm). i've tried it with 3 different valves: the original mikuni downfeed, which makes the fuel flow quite a way up to get to the carb inlet, a side feed ktm like comes on the '04, and the small screw type husky seen on the left side of the '06-'08. there's not much difference visually in the flow from these valves with the screw type seeming to be slightly better. at this point, the only thing that solves the problem is to open both sides. it's not a problem on any surface except the highway, and it takes about 3 miles of 65+ to occur. i wonder if our motard brethren have this problem? i guess i should stay in the dirt.
getting a week of bad weather starting tomorrow, maybe a good time to pull the carb to see what the p.o. put in there.

If anyone could answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it.

1) The right side petcock shown in picture "Fuel Tap 004.jpg", what is the Husky/Husaberg/KTM part number?

2) What is the outlet nipple OD?

3) The left side petcock, part number 58507003200, what is the outlet nipple OD?

Part Number 55007005300 $29.99

The O.D is probably 8 mm (for both taps) at its largest point as the stock fuel line is 7.5 mm I.D.. I can verify at a later date if need be.

Looks like they’re ironing out which petcocks to use on the unobtainum Clarke oversized tank. (I just used old Acerbis Husky 610 taps on mine)
