I have a FE550 2007 and I have a problem when crossing deep rivers, the engine die and only start after some time or it will start by using choke. This was never a problem on me old FE501 2000. I have read that to fix the problem I should reroute the breathing hoses from the carb but the question is which hoses should I move op to the tank or the seat ?

welcome to the site.
you need to look carefully at the sealing of the carb bowl and the clamps on both ends. relocating the vent tubes up high is sometimes tricky because you create gravity traps in the lines. when i used to race in places with a lot of river crossings and mud, the best thing that worked for me was to lengthen the hoses and protect the tips with a flap of rubber to keep them from plugging with dirt.

I cut in two T fittings to the vent lines, one from each side and ran a tube up to the handle bars and then put a 90 fitting on and another small piece of line 4" maybe, then back down onto itself. This in effect makes a snorkel as high as the top triple tree. By using the T's this eliminates the gravity traps that Ned is talking about.

As well as Ned's piece of rubber on the end of the vent tubes, a piece of that large reticulated foam wrapped around the end of the tubes helps with the mud caking on and plugging things up.

I had the same problem with my 04 550 when crossing streams, this fix cured all of that. You will now only be limited by the air filter getting into the water!

I did relocated 2 vent hoses from the carb and this seem to have solve the problem.
