Hi All,

Hey I just noticed that my 09 570 does not have an intake trumpet like the one that is shown in the manual in the air box.

Can anyone comment on this?

Thanks,

Dale

I also noticed that my 09' 450 didn't come with any musical instruments either... and I looked for quite a while.

Probably not helpful. Happy New Year.

Hey Al,

So your 450 doesn't have the intake trumpet in the air box like as shown in the manual?

Dale , i take it yours looks likes this:

They must have changed the design from the manual fairly late on i guess on all the 09s.
It would have been nice to have a small lipped trumpet around the air intake hole rather than nothing. At least then, any water can divert away from the air intake if it does get in. Just make sure you get plenty of waterproof grease around the perimeter lip and ensure a good seal when you put the air filter on.

Trumpets and dirt.

I have bought a new vacuum cleaner for the house and relegated the old one to the shed just in case something falls into the trumpet that can't be picked up with a filter oiled rag . That open path straight into the air cleaner - it makes me nervous !

I know what you mean, one will have to be careful when removing the air filter after a long ride to keep debris from falling down in there. It really shouldn't be too much a problem as the air box is so high any small debris will probably be stuck to the filer or the oil residue from the filter.

are some dealers pulling it out when they're building the bikes up?

Cypher,
No, if you look at the two pics they are totally different designs, plus they are an all in one mould.
I dont believe Husaberg/ktm would go to the expense of making two different moulds for no reason.
My guess is the 450s are as the manual (like piggds pic) and the 570s are a different mould to accommodate something underneath that the 450s dont have. ?

Nick

Dale, you were thinking the same ,at the same time as me.
But , more importantly , you should be out on that 570 sliding the back wheel around and popping wheelies all over CA

Ola,
My 09 450 has the trumpet manifold, my 570 is without. The partnumbers are different. 450 specific partnumbers start with 812, 570 specific numbers start with 817.
So my guess is: Husaberg wants them to be different.

Adrian

Hello every body!
I sometimes ride in some very soft fine beach sand (Lancelin WA) and usually after a few hours in this any air cleaner will be totally covered with sand, removal of the sand-caked HB air cleaner would un-avoidably drop sand into the plenum.
I have fitted an aluminium plate to stop any foreign grit dropping straight into the intake, instead it drops onto the plate or into the bottom of the plenum where it is easily removed. The plate is made from 2mm ali and fits snugly into the plenum half way up. The riveted on bit holds the plate forward and also stops the back end from dropping.

The plate also seems to have quietened the induction noise a bit and there doesn't seem to be any adverse effects on performance with it installed. FE 570 no trumpet.

I'd be happy to supply more details if anyone else is interested.

I have gone to this trouble because I love my new bike.

Thanks Steve.

Hi Steve,

Welcome at this community, it's the best source for info.

I would be very interested in seeing that photo. My bikes typically ride in very fine dust and it is my biggest concern. So far the bikes hold up very good (only one tappet clearance adjustment done so far on 4 bikes and aprox. 20.000km
Interestingly the exhaust needed to be adjusted because the mounted shims were cupped!

Adriaan

tazer,

I know your post was a couple years ago, but I just saw the picture of that plate you made for the airbox. Fantastic! You say it doesn't seem to restrict airflow or reduce power? Can I get more picts or details on how it fits in there? Just bought a 2011 FE570S and need something like that. I really wish it had the trumpet to keep water from getting in as well, but looks like your deal might do that too.

Hi tmanley,

Yes I still use it it helps mainly to stop the crap dropping into the intake when you first remove your dirty air cleaner and it definitely quietens the induction noise.
180 Hrs and 7500kms on the old girl now and no major issues. :D
The plate is pretty straight forward to make 2mm thick aluminium and it sits up 40mm from the bottom of the air box.
At the front the airbox tapers towards the bottom so the plate finds its spot and sits there, the back of the airbox is parallel so it needs the tab that you can see in the photo to hold it up and keep it forward into the taper of the airbox.
The tab is 50mm wide.
I used a piece of cardboard and made a template first then made final adjustments to the ali plate until I got a nice snug fit then removed all sharp edges.
Next I fitted the bent tab at the back with rivets (Don't use screws)

I hope that helps.

Steve

Thanks tazar!

I'll give this a try for sure. I'm especially eager to see how well it reduces the intake howl. Maybe I can give up the ear plugs :D I still wish Husaberg had the trumpet for these...that would help keep water out. I'm always afraid water will run in from splash over the seat.

If the aircleaner is oiled properly and you make sure you have a good grease seal on the bottom you shouldn't have too much trouble with water.
