650 Berg takes win in the opening round of the 6 Hr Endurance Ice Racing Series in Alberta, Canada in the Open Class!!!???

Nizzo... FryGuy??????????????

Pics?

I did go watch them practice a couple weekends ago. Its incredible how ice tires have improved. I would compare their speed in corners to Pro AMA Supermoto. They had a long sweeping corner, that too me looked like 4th gear, but for them it was mid throttle 6th. They built their bike from a left over Fs 650C, put enduro suspension under it, a BOSS tank and geared it up and away they went. Hopefully Nizzo has pics

Sorry guys...been so busy testing, practicing, and giggling our ***** off we've forgotten to take many pics. here is one of the bike from back in january during testing. we took a bunch of video during the race start but the camera froze up at -18*C. I promise I will get you guys something to check out (pics or video) by season's end.

Last weekend was round 1, and what a day it was! Jay pulled a massive holeshot (lemans start) and led for the first 4 laps. Then he got hit by a quad...they both went down hard. For those who don't know...they run the bikes and the quads together in our endurance ice races out here. Kinda makes for a challenge when passing a madman on a 50 hp quad with ice tires!! Anyways Jay got back up into 2nd within a lap and the laps clicked off (5 min lap time). Many thanks to BOSS, as our first pit was only 24 seconds after 1 hr 40 min of main jet riding (gotta love big tanks with dry break filler necks). After that we both took turns on the bike trying to be as consistent as possible. In the end we pulled out the win by one lap plus 40 seconds over second place.

But honestly the highlight of the day was seeing the look on the competition's faces when we pull the "Big Dog" out of the trailer in the morning. That bike is bar none the coolest bike I've ever ridden...smooth, stable (all the way up to top speed of105 mph), strong, and the enduro susp is just the thing for the rough ice late in the day. Over the years I've ridden many different bikes (as we all have) and nothing pulls as hard as this one, not even a one liter sport bike.

So just how fast is it? I think its best put like this...when you're goin good n fast and tug it comin out of a corner you then realize just how slow you were goin a second ago. 8O

Next weekend is round 2 (of 4) on Telford Lake. Can't wait!!

Looks to be quite the weapon Nizzo.Good luck for the rest of the season with that "calgary hot-rod'

Husy or pussy?

I just saw an old clapped out KX500 kick the Husaberg 650 *** last weekend in Leduc. The Kwacker must have been a 1990 or so as it looked like junk. If that old thing can beat a brand new Husy, I think they better invest more $$ into it or get new pilots or scooter operators.... It sure looks cool, but it doesn't have what it takes to perform in an ice race. Maybe it should stick to the grass tracks or easy going trail rides.... Don't get me wrong, I don't support Kawa either but it sure must have felt pretty bad to be beat by an old japanese bike of technology that is probably 15 years older...... Good luck if you are still intending on racing it.

RE: Husy or pansy?

Absolutely. We all know that the rider has nothing to do with ice racing.

Sell the Husaberg while you still can. Truckerbro is only voicing what the world knows but has the common decency not to say.

thanks,

Yeah thank god for truckerbro. Now the next time some young kid on a CRF150R jumps over my head at the moto track I'll know just what to do with the FE450!

Nizzo,

I know its not worth my time sparring with someone with as much insight as our Trucker friend but I would like to get your race report. Comments?

Okay. Back to Telford Lake for another weekend of racing.
The Husy boys pulled out all the stops. In fact, I think they may have posted the fastest lap time of the day during yesterday's race.
The clapped out KX500 that beat them last weekend is in fact a clapped out Kawi... A DNF!!
There was a KTM team that was unbelieveable. Isn't HUSY technology shared with KTM? The KTM team is definitely the team to beat.

So my thoughts have changed. Maybe the Husaberg is one of the bikes to consider running.....

Whew...

IT'S OK GUYS, TRUCKERBRO THINKS THAT THE BERGS MIGHT BE OK! PULL THE FOR SALE SIGNS! WE'LL WAIT UNTIL HE'S SURE BEFORE WE DECIDE WHAT TO DO!

thanks,

Hi Folks,

Thank you for all your encouragement and support, it means a lot to Jay and I. Its nice to be apart of the Berg family.

Round 2 - Telford lake, Sunday a week ago.
Team Corner Grass had a respectable day and finished on the podium in 3rd (1:53 behind 1st). The old Kawi pulled out a first place. ...Good for you guys, Nice Work!... Team 35 got 2nd, but its not that simple. Team 35 is comprised of two guys who have been racing endurance ice for over 10 years, Todd and Joe. Joe was sidelined with an injury sustained at Rd 1. Unbelieveably Todd decides to SOLO the entire day. Soloing the day itself is not uncommon, but finishing 30 seconds behind 1st place is. In fact Todd led until the 5th last lap. Wow, Kudos to you Todd. Lap times were 4:00 to 4:30. We did 75 laps.

Round 3 next post...

Round 3 - Telford 2, yesterday
What can I say; when you reuse a well pounded race course it becomes insane. Physically this was a demanding day. The course was the same course as last weekend with a few bad spots taken out. In the three seasons I've been trying endurance ice, this was bar none the roughest course. Even some well used sections at a typical six days don't compare. Note to self - it's nearly impossible to stand AND hold the throttle pinned while riding an FC650 in perfect traction conditions, late in the day. Needless to say Jay and I are now 1 inch shorter due to compressed spines.

The race itself was awesome. We finished 2nd just 3:37 behind Team 35. Thankfully I can save us some embarrassment because Todd did not solo it again. This time a fast guy from down East "just happened" to be in town. Patrick Beaule of KTM Canada rode with Todd and put in some good laps on their '08 KTM 530 XC. Nice to see you again Patrick! Team Shrinkage ("the Kawi") had a rough day. First they retired the old girl due to a lack of compression, then they tossed a chain on their back-up bike. Better luck next time guys. The highlight of the day for me was the start...Jay started. On the start he fumbled with the tether then stalled the bike. He got away in 8th or 9th. Todd had holeshot and was gone. Well...in 2 or 3 laps you could've thrown a tarp over Todd and Jay. Jay had fed his way through the pack and was battling with Todd. They traded the lead a few times for nearly 20 laps. What a show!

I must give a BIG SHOUT out to BOSS for the clear tank and dry break. We pitted only three times in the 6 hours. Our pit times were 25 sec, 18 sec, and 17 seconds. That includes taking on 12 to 14 liters of fuel each time. THANKS BOSS. Excellent product!

I gotta say our FC650 has been amazing. We have ruthlessly violated that bike and it only seems to be getting stronger. We are completely satisfied with the bike and don't feel that there is any better equipment available.

GO HUSABERG!

Next weekend - Round 4 Chip Lake (last race). It all comes down to this one. Team 35 and Team Corner Grass are tied for 1st with 67 points each.

Nick

Excellent results, thanks for posting.

There has to be people taking pictures of these races, do you have any links?

Great Report Nick!! Sounds like you guys are having a blast as well as getting some great finishes. After meeting Jay with you at last man standing, I must admit that he is one of the more "energetic" people that I've met lately and he obviously puts the same enthusiasm in his riding. 2 thumbs up!

Good luck at the next round!

THe only pics, Kelsow, are the ones Truckerpro has of them in the lead, all the rest were destroyed, or " Do not exist!".

Nick, great work, on having fun and putting the berg in the limelight. When its all over, you gotta let Todd have a hot lap or two, maybe he'll tell you he's glad you were on the 650, that you would have gone faster with less power and beat him
