Tricks for installing carb - it's in but it wasn't pretty

It looks like the carb will be tough to remove, but it's not too bad.
1) Remove hose clamp at carb side of engine boot.
2) Remove both hose clamps from frame boot.
3) Remove frame boot completely (carb will tilt down as boot comes off)
4) Remove throttle cables and TPS connector
5) Hold carb to the rear and remove engine boot from intake (set aside)
6) Tilt and rotate carb around until it passes through right side of frame
(starter motor does not have to be removed but carb must be already be drained to avoid spilling gas)
 
Right then,the mod is done and hopefully I'll get a chance to try it on sunday.It's amazing when you have the carb off and actuate the pump how much fuel is delivered.It will shoot about 4 ft out of the carb.I ended up with the minimum I could get and this gives me a duration of under 1 sec measured by my super accurate guesstimate.My clearance from the screw to the pump rod holder measures at .010"Anything under this and I just get a dribble.Sound about right Taffy?The unfortunate thing is that the screw is easily accessible for an on bike adjustment but there's no way to gauge a change short of removing the boot or the plastic cover to measure clearance.Oh well.

yes but by adjusting it right in you are infact turning it off therefore you can test the bike with and without the APJ!!!!! just remember accurately what you twiddle and you won't have a problem.

I had a chance to get out today and test the pump mod.Previously,I liked it disconnected 95% of the time except when you had to give it a sudden snap and it would bog(pitching me over the bars once last year)With it hooked up,this wasn't an issue but extended low speed technical woods stuff would cause it to get blubbery of the bottom end.As it sits now,perfect 8O .Good response,easier to get the front end up over logs and such,I underjumped once today and had to pin the throttle to get the front end up-which it did with no bog.Good in the low speed woods stuff-not too abrupt and not too soft.Fuel range showed no appreciable difference either.Other than the usual temp related fuel screw adjustments,I can cross the carb of my "to do" list.Good stuff.I'd almost have to say you were right Taffy :wink:
